MB4 versus 502B

  • I have a set of 402ii's I used a 502B sub with. I decided to try an MB4 with them. In fact two MB4's stacked. According to the data two MB4's would be similar in output to a 502B.

When setting the Panaray digital controller for the  MB4 I get way less SPL from the MB4 compaired to the 502b. I know theres 3 dB differnce in sensitivity between them but it sounds way more. I was banking on two stacked MB4's giving similar performance to a single 502B. The MB4's should go slightly lower. My thinking was two MB4's would be a little lighter to lift  than a 502B.

Further to my last. I'm referring to the MB4 output on the controller versus the 502B output. The 502B setting seems to give more level out than the MB4 setting.

I’ve since done a frequency response measurement of the output from the controller for a 502b and MB. The clue is in the name MB as it covers MB4 up to MB24. Which is a variation in sensitivity of about it 6dB. So it looks like Bose has allowed for this and the MB output is about 5 dab down compared to the 502b. I increased the amp level by the same and it sounded quite balanced.
