I have an old Lifestyle 48 system and I am unable to get audio through it from Apple TV 4k.
The Apple TV works fine when connected direct to the TV - I get audio through the TV speakers, but when I connect it to an HDMI port in the Bose system I don't get any audio.
I've tried to connect it to the VCR HDMI port (the Sky box is connected to the CBL SAT port) but with no success - I don't understand why it's not pulling the audio feed through the HDMI into the Bose system.
We've also tried connecting it to the CBL SAT post - which works fine for the SKY - but that doesn't work for Apple TV either.
We have the same issue with an older Apple TV too. Even when it's connected direct to the TV via HDMI and then we use an optical out from TV into the Bose there's no audio!
Can someone help please? I have a Bose that still works, but I'm watching streamed content via TV speakers!

There is a simple reason for this. The VS2 does not support HDMI Audio. Video goes to the VS2 and Audio goes to the receiver.
Because the AppleTV 4K only has an HDMI out for both Audio & Video this will not be possible.
So I made a guide that should help you use your Lifestyle DVD receiver with modern 4K devices & TV's. I would suggest that you use Options 3 or 4 (Option 1 would also work, though it might not output 5.1).
I hope that this helps answer your question. Let us know what you ended up doing 🙂
Thank you! We’ve decided to try an HDMI switch - will let you know how we get on!

Cool, there are many out there for you to choose from. So you don't have to use the one I linked, but any that you think would work best that at least have an optical or coax out and ARC passthrough. Also, consider a universal remote to try and make using the system easier for you and others 🙂
