On-ear wireless 2017 keeps disconnecting from MacBook Pro Catalina

Hello, please help,

My headset On-ear wireless 2017 connects to MacBook with latest Catalina OS on Bluetooth, and after 15 seconds disconnects, every time.

I would like to know if a solution exists, before putting my Bose headset away.

I think I have tried everything: unpair, pair, clearing device list, reset bluetooth module on Mac, reset PRAM on Mac, delete com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file, updated to latest headset firmware 1.0.0.

Headset works with IPad, IPhone, but not with Mac.

In addition to the on-ear headset, I've tried with my Bose Revolve SoundLink (normally paired OK to IPhone) and it has the same issue. Disconnects from the MacBook Pro after 10-15 seconds.

Hey , thanks for posting!

It's strange that you're experiencing connection issues with your On-Ear wireless headphones and your SoundLink Revolve only with your MacBook Pro.

You've been through a substantial set of troubleshooting steps which is really great. Have you ever been able to connect other devices via Bluetooth to your MacBook Pro?

Hello Charlotte. Unfortunately I have no other Bluetooth devices.

I have been supported by Apple (on Twitter!) and one thing that has worked is performing an SMC reset https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

For some reason not every SMC reset attempt works, but after a number of reboots trying to reset the SMC (time consuming), the headset Bluetooth connection works again. It keeps working until the Mac is off and restarted, then problem reoccurs. I wish I could find a permanent fix.

Hello. I have fixed the issue by wiping the MacBook Pro and installing OS Catalina from scratch. Now the headset connects and maintains Bluetooth connection beautifully.

I recovered only my files from the TimeMachine backup, since recovering the whole system (apps, settings) would probably have reproduced the issue. I believe that's how the issue passed from my previous MacBook to the new one. At the time, I migrated everything to the new MacBook using TimeMachine.

Hope it helps someone. It's a lot of work, but definitely a solution. Take care you all.
