Playing music from iPhone through the L1 Model 2 system

I perform in public a few times a year with my L1 Model 2 system with the T1 ToneMatch audio engine.  I was wondering if anyone had advice as to the best way to play music from my iPhone through the system while we are taking a break?

I use a very inexpensive Bluetooth receiver plugged into the usually unuseable channel on the mixing board with RCA connectors.

On a T1, Bluetooth receiver to 2 RCA to 2 convertors RCA to 1/4" mono into channels 4/5.

Thank you, Chet.

If you have an open XLR, this works great:

Here's an article with some simple and inexpensive options.

We bought a $30 Aluratek AIS01F bluetooth adapter for break music, plugged into the RCA connectors (on our mixer that feeds our pair of L1 Compacts). I've also used it to run accompaniment track playback from an iPad (that I'm also mixing with) with a vocal group I run sound for. It works great but, despite its advertised 33' range, it can start to cut out over about 20 feet away (not an issue with my own band, but was when I was iPad mixing the vocal group).

For longer range needs, I like the $40 Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter, with a line of site range of 15 meters (45 feet). I use that one in our church gym, and it didn't cut out until I was almost at the other end of the basketball court (the receiver was in a recessed wall rack for the AV equipment at one end of the basketball court).

Hope this helps,
Jeff

Alas, I hear the latest iPhones don't have an 1/8" stereo output any more.

The Cupertino Cult is now forcing people to pay more money to them for a Lightening to whatever adapter (more profits) or else use bluetooth.

Correct, they don't. I've had an iPhone since the iPhone5 and when I got the iPhone7 it had the Lighting port. While I would prefer the 1/8", Bluetooth is pretty darn prevalent these days

Yup. FWIW, I've kept a few old iPods for precisely this reason -- so I can fill breaks/gaps with music off one of these devices which I plug into my system (S1 or L1/T1). I don't like Bluetooth.

FWIW, if you don't like Bluetooth the iPhone lighting to 1/8" adapter is dead simple to use and is only a few bucks to $10, depending on where you buy. I keep a 3" one in my pocket for whenever I (or someone else) might need it. If you're already connecting a 1/8" cable to a system, adding the lighting adapter isn't a big deal. Yeah, we can all whine about it until the cows come home (and I do my fair share), but it's just not that big of a deal anymore. I prefer Bluetooth myself as I can keep my phone with me instead of having to leave it by the mixer during breaks. Many of my family has Androids with headphone jacks and they've always used Bluetooth speakers rather than plug the phone in.

And what cable is best to use with Iphone?

Hello Dorfenator,

Since new models have appeared since this thread originated, it would help to know a couple of specifics:

  1. Which model iPhone?
  2. What are you connecting to, i.e., direct to a L1 Model II base, a Bose Tonematch mixer (T1, T4s, T8s), a third-party mixer, an L1 Compact,  an S1 Pro, an F1 812, an L1 Pro 8, 16 or 32, or some other device?
  3. Are you requesting the best cable brand (Hosa, ProCo, Monster, etc), or the best cable configuration (Y-cable & connector types, interface box, etc.)?
