I’ve researched a few discussions on this page regarding portable power.
Some of the posts are pretty old.
Most of the discussions are about the Duracell 600 And some other models.
But no one has actually BottomLined the best.
I have an event in February that requires that I go out to the middle of a field.
I am going to use a compact a wireless mic and a Numark idj2
I’m going to need about an hour and a half for power…
Any feedback on a unit would be great.
Thanks
Duracell Powerpack should do just fine, depending on how loud you plan to play. I have had a 600 since early 2011, used it 20-30 times for 4 hours each and have had no problems. I did have some humming once when I used it with a T1 and wireless mic. From what I read on Amazon, you can get a bum unit. I have a Duracell 600 and 450 and Black and Decker 400 and they all work great. I do charge mine all the time even if I’m not using them. At least once a month, usually more. I’m pretty sure that is key.
The powerpack I use will give me at least 3 hours of use. Here’s what I run off the battery:
1. T1 mixer with external power cord
2. Shure PGX Handheld wireless
3. Sennhiezer Lapel mic
4. Bose Compact
5. A Samson Wireless headset (Runs of of it’s own battery.
I use an Ipad for audio running the app “PlayMYQ HD” (One less drain on the battery). In my opinion playmyQ HD is the perfect ipad/ipod audio player for ceremonies. Plus it will run on my iphone or ipod for back up. I think the Numark will definitely work for you in your set-up.
If I keep the Bose close to me I don’t get hum but once this summer I had to put the Compact about 25 feet from me and I did get a slight hum while running three wireless mics. I have two of the same battery power packs and keep them both trickle charged.
Thanks, I’m guessing Sandy must have depleted the market… I will have to wait
You should know that the Duracell has had a lot of problems. Read the reviews on Amazon. Mine arrived defective. It worked for the one gig I needed it for, but I don’t have any confidence in it now.
I have had 2 Duracell 600’s and both have lost the ability to provide power by half in a little over a year.
I will never trust them again.
My next portable power system will be an inverter and a slow discharge battery. Both can be purchased from auto supply shops.

Thanks Lou, I have heard the good and the bad.. I can also see what you are talking about.. but if that battery and inverter can come in a nice tidy package with a handle,

I do note that Stanley has a 400 watt rig also at Lowes, I may just grab one, run it thru some tests and return it if it fails.
I have to figure this out by FEB.
I’m with Lou 100%! I too have purchased two Powerpack 600 & they are both dead within a two years. Maybe I should have charged them more…, but still to me they are a total waste of money. I have a 1200 watt inverter right now & I’m planning on getting a deep cycle battery or two before summer…

The bigger problem for me was just how well the Duracell 600 worked for the first 12 or so ceremonies I did with it. Then came winter and the unit was in my car for a while (It is a "Jump Starter") then in my moderately heated garage. Come spring it ran only an hour and a half.
I never let the second unit sit in the car and it spent most of the winter in the garage, plugged in. Next spring the same story with unit two... DOA in 90 minutes or less.
I plan to make my own package or carry case for the inverter and battery.
Into my 6th year with the Black & Decker PowerMate 400. I believe it’s now called the ElectroMate 400.
4 hours of a Compact, laptop, wireless mic receiver.
Sorry everyone is having so much issue with the DuraCell units however thanks for sharing them.
If and when the B&D <<dies>>, the choice will probably be to buy two of them as a back-up would be nice even though my Honda EU2000i stands always at the ready.
