Dear Bose Engineers,
I would like to ask you for an Automated report generation.
It is very complicated and tedious to fulfil the Word template again and again.
Here you can find lovely Example from the competition.
Many thanks for your reply.
Martin
Dear Martin,
Thanks for your suggestion.
Unfortunately, we are currently not planning any changes to Modeler’s reporting functions. But we are always listening and may use your input for future developments. It would be great if you could let us know what you like most about the tool you referenced.
Most Modeler users have developed their personal preferences how a report shall look and what content shall be covered. Often, a corporate ID has to be followed, the content changes depending on the project, it’s development stage or the data that is actually available. Sometimes, a customer just needs a Direct Field mapping, sometimes a full report including intelligibility results for multiple conditions. In almost all cases, customized explanatory text, tables or rigging reports are additionally required.
It has been my personal experience that an automated report is not flexible enough to accomodate all this and I am typically faster (and better) in report assembly by using (Word-) templates and inserting figures and tables from Modeler. Please note that Modeler allows to export everything that looks like a spreadsheet into Excel (or elsewhere) quite easily: Just ‘Copy Data’ using the right-click menu. Note also that figures may be grabbed as vector images by using ‘Copy Graph’ from the RCM. The appearance of these figures (size, fonts, colors) can be customized and saved in presets which makes things very convenient and fast.
For model views and mappings, I recommend utilizing a screen grab software, like SnagIt, which many of us at Bose are using. Use the ability to resize Modeler’s model view to an aspect ratio and zoom factor that is appropriate for the current model, optimize the view and snap the model window. If the model view is set to white background, subsequent trimming of a screenshot is just one click. Zoom to Fit can be useful to exactly maintain the resulting image sizes.
This is my personal way of doing reports. I’d like to encourage others to share their thoughts as well.
Best rgds,
Thomas
