RJ45 cable T4s to L1 pro 32 Spotty Connectivity

Bose product name: T4s & L1 Pro 32

Country: U.S.

Firmware Version V.1.1.4

What devices were you using that were affected and what version are they on: T4s & L1 Pro 32

Detailed description of the issue and steps to reproduce: Spotty and irregular connectivity between T4s & L1 Pro

What environment do you experience the issue in? Home

When did you start to experience the issue? Did it work correctly previously?: Immediately upon unboxing the T4s and connecting it to the L1 Pro 32. The connection did not work initially, then it did work when I reversed the RJ45 cable... then it did not work when I reversed the RJ45 cable again...

Any troubleshooting steps you took: I contacted Bose Pro help and had me reverse the cable again to the way it did not work and it started working again... He said the cable might not have made a proper connection... Jeez... every time I inserted the RJ45 into the T4s or the L1 Pro base station it made a firm clicking sound, so the whole enterprise just seems a little spotty to me... Any similar experience or advise on how to manage the cable connection between the L1 Pro and the T4s???

Hello mdeanstrauss,

Do you have access to a standard CAT-5 or CAT-6 Ethernet cable?  Use that between your T4s and L1 Pro 32 (you don't need the fancy etherCON hoods -- they're used to make the a locking and more strain-resistant connection.)  That will ensure the problem is with the original cable and not the T4s or L1 Pro 32.

If everything works fine with the plain cable, see if Bose will replace theirs under warranty.  Alternatively, etherCON cables are available from several internet sources, or you can purchase the etherCON hoods separately and install them on standard Ethernet cables.  (You could have a couple backups, or make one shorter or longer, anything up to 50 feet.)  Or, just use a naked Ethernet cable and keep some spares in case you trip on one (though not good during a gig!)

Does that help?

I appreciate you taking the time to answer my query... what you offer is an interesting "work-around"; however, what I was interested in determining was whether or not other Bose Pro users experienced spotty connectivity via their Bose-supplied cables... for what I spent on the the T4s/L1 Pro 32 combo, I was expecting flawless performance... nevertheless, I experienced inconsistent connectivity with 2 of 3 of the Bose cables... is it just me???
