Bose product name
L1B2 with a tonematch 8
Country
USA
Firmware Version
App Version
What devices were you using that were affected and what version are they on HP Laptop
Detailed description of the issue and steps to reproduce
When I plug my guitar into the tonematch, the backing tracks running from the computer through the L1 cut out. I can play the guitar through the system if the computer isn't patched in. But I can't figure out how to get them to work together so that I can play along with the backing track live. TIA
What environment do you experience the issue in? studio
When did you start to experience the issue? Did it work correctly previously?
just started with this as I called Bose previously to see what connection I needed to patch the computer into the L1B1 and was told I needed as USB B to USB A
Any troubleshooting steps you took...none at this point
Hello roger1013,
Yes, the T8s mixer lets you connect multiple devices and mix them to one signal. I use a T8s with two mics, two guitars, and backing tracks from a laptop. Without knowing your complete cable connections and T8s settings, it can be difficult to say what's going on. I'll just provide some starting points.
First of all, please make sure your T8s has all the latest firmware updates, which include improvements to signal routing and reverb, Follow this link to see if you need a firmware update, and if so, follow this link for update instructions. A USB-A to USB-B cable (commonly used for many printers) lets you connect your T8s to a computer. This serves three purposes: You can perform firmware updates to the T8s; and you can play your background music through your T8s to your L1; or record onto your laptop from the T8s. (I.e., it turns your T8s into a high-quality digital sound card.)
I'll describe my setup, then note some changes you might use. I have two mics plugged into channels 1 & 2, and leave 3 & 4 empty, in case I have guest singers and need additional mics. I have my Telecaster plugged into channel 5 and acoustic into channel 6. To bring audio from the laptop, I rotate the T8s Selector knob to "Prefs" and set the PC-to-USB to route the left stereo channel from the laptop to channel 7, and the right stereo channel to channel 8. This way I have individual control of each and every channel. Click on this link for detail instructions and videos. I use the Aux/Pan controls to send each signal to the right channel outputs or the left channel outputs. When I take both L1 systems, I route channel 7 left and channel 8 right, so I get true stereo. When I take only one L1, I pan both channels 7 and 8 to the right, so both stereo channels are mixed to mono for the single system. I use TRS-TRS cables to connect the T8s to the systems.
Two notes: 1) If you use the USB routed to channels 7 and/or 8, the T8s supports using the XLR Combo inputs at the same time. I don't recommend it, as you won't be able to control the XLR input and USB input independently. 2) You won't have to gain stage the USB channels as you would the mic or guitar channels -- the USB in is automatically gain staged.
Options:
- Since you only have a single L1, you could route both the USB left and the USB right to channel 8, and leave channel 7 for other purposes.
- If you prefer not to use USB, you can use a 1/8" TRS to two 1/4" TS Y-cable, like this:
- Insert the 1/8" plug into your laptop's headphone jack, and insert the 1/4" plugs into two channels of the T8s. Your sound quality will depend on the quality of the sound card inside your laptop, and the 1/8" headphone jack (in my experience) is not as robust and more prone to crackling noises as time goes on.
Then use the individual channel controls to mix your guitar's signal with the background tracks and enjoy! I hope I haven't confused you. There's lots more great information in the The Bose Professional Portable PA Encyclopedia.
Does that help?
Thanks for the feedback-I'll try it tonight
sorry Fish-54 but I'm afraid I'm not able follow this for the one system I'm using. I'm not very tech savvy and I've had no success. It's all very frustrating. I'm more of a visual learner/doer and I think I need someone on the phone with me to guide me through all that you've outlined. can you recommend someone for me to call and work me through it?
thanks
Hi roger1013,
