If your S1 Pro battery is draining when the S1 Pro is not in use (and the power switch is in the standby position ? and not connected to AC power, please read the latest update S1 Pro battery draining when not in use Thank you, Bose Pro Community Admin
The original message follows below.
I have two S1 Pro speakers. Same age, both pretty much new. The latest one I purchased with only a few hours of use has a battery that slowly dies over the course of a week or two when not in use. The other S1 Pro battery lasts as it should. Any thoughts?
My experience is that both of my S1 Pro batteries die if not used for a couple of weeks. I spoke with customer service several times about this and they even sent me new batteries and replaced both of my S1 Pros (their engineers wanted to run tests on my units to see if they could figure out what was draining the batteries.) My newer units exhibit the same behavior so I'm not sure what the cause is. The customer service tech said they were wondering if S1 Pro BlueTooth was continually trying to connect so they suggested disconnecting my phone from the S1 Pro but I didn't get around to that before they replaced my original units. Unfortunately, no one followed up with me so I don't know if they discovered what the issue is. Frankly, this is not normal behavior for lithium ion batteries but I'm living with it and just keep charging mine to make sure they don't die. Here's the discussion I started: https://www.bosepro.community/...31#38892682227613531
Thanks Michael for taking the time to share your experience. Do you find the battery lasts for the expected time when using it after a full charge?
Yes, I find that I’ve been able to use my S1 Pro for three or four shows (I’m a magician) over a week without recharging. That’s about four hours. The only time I have issues with the batteries is when I don’t use it for more than a week or two.

That's good to hear. I have been afraid to use mine for a performance without plugging it in first. Thanks again.
I do check mine a few hours before I load up for show. If it’s below 50%, I’ll charge it. The Bose Connect app helps since it gives you the actual percentage of charge.
I have the same issue where my S1 Battery depletes to a red indicator if not used for a week or so. At first I thought that I had inadvertently flipped the power switch on when putting it in the bag, so I charged it and left it out of the bag. The results were the same, a depleted battery with no actual usage. I also positioned the power switch to the fast charge position and repeated my experiment to see if there was a difference. The results were the same, a depleted battery with no usage. Finally, I fully charged the battery, removed it from the unit and let it sit. After a week, I reinstalled the battery in the S1. The S1 indicated that the reinstalled battery was fully charged. This indicates that the battery is good and has no internal resistance that would cause such an issue. Therefore, the S1 has some sort of current drain while turned off, which is an unacceptable condition and presents a challenge as the S1 will not be fully charged when needed if being transported and away from an outlet for any length of time. To me, the purpose of the S1 is to do just that for busking etc. and it is the reason I purchased it. I am respectfully requesting through this forum that Bose determine what the issue is and correct it.
I need it to be good to go even after a few days since last charge. I go away for several weeks in the summer and it is not convenient to leave a relatively bulky device on charge ready for an impromptu session.
Charge it up to full, then take the battery out of the unit. I believe it's a single screw. The S1 will no longer be draining the battery.

Thanks for the suggestion but it is simply not practical, the risk of losing the two small screws when removing or refitting the battery in the back of a car in a field is too great. I can power my other speakers from a separate battery pack and inverter so the USP of the S1 is lost.

The battery will "go to sleep" after some time (30 days?) and you will need to plug in with the power cord and switch on momentarily to wake it up.
After that you can then run with just the battery.
Hope this helps, _Roger
So I still need to be close to mains power when I re-commission the S1 in case it has 'gone to sleep'! (where is the 'facepalm' emoji when you need it).....

This is the case regardless of whether the battery is installed or not. Bose put a sleep function in the battery to make it last longer. When lithium ion batteries are stored at too low a charge (below 40%) for a longer period of time, it adversely affects the life of the battery.
Does your S1 charge fully, and the pulsing blue light shut off? I have updated the firmware. My S1 won't finish charging. I thought it had rectified itself, but next cycle it's back. Before I turned it on, ran some BT through it, shut off charged and it turned off. Not this time. I pulled the battery to do a reset, tried again, the same thing. I run a 12 volt battery pack to my mixer, so I got to charge that anyway before a gig. I do enjoy the speaker, don't plan to get rid of it, but sure wish these issues were solved.
So even if they solve the issue with the S1 discharging the battery I still won't be able to rely on it to be charged?
Surely it's not impossible to 'sleep' the battery and wake it up without resorting to mains power? Sorry Bose, you have definitely dropped the ball with this one

The screws remain affixed to the battery cover when you unscrew them. There's no risk of losing the screws.

Roger and Michael are right.
Here's the information on Sleep Mode.
If you need to be able to leave the system dormant for more than 30 days, and won't be able to wake it up before a gig, the S1 Pro may not be a good fit for you requirements.
Thank you for being candid ST. It seems you have a brilliant product hamstrung by some questionable design decisions and some bad engineering (I never though I would hear myself saying that about a Bose product). My Camera batteries don't go into 'sleep mode', nor do my laptop batteries. However, if the sleep mode really does kick in after 30 days (and not when the batteries reach, say 40%) I could live with that but neither of the S1's I have briefly owned would hold charge anywhere close to 30 days so it seems a redundant feature just at the moment.
Anyway, back to my original question, have Bose made any significant progress tracing and remedying the battery draining issue? If so when can I expect to be able to buy a (second) S1 Pro that does not have the problem?
I've owned the S1 since April of this year and also have experienced the 'battery drain' issue. Last week, I noticed an update to the Bose Connect app. It required the S1 to be powered on to complete the update. After the update completed, I decided to test the unit for battery drain. So far, it's been exactly one week and the app is still showing 100% charge of the battery, even though it's been unplugged. Has anyone else completed the update and had this experience? I'll keep monitoring the unit for battery drain, but I'm hoping Bose has corrected the problem through the lastest software update.
