before I dive in though just wanted to be sure of a few basics - as I require extra channels would a QSC touchmix 16 be fine with the S1 / would I simply hook it up through a channel of the S1?
Also if I were to use a TS1 how would I hook that up through the S1

Yes, you can connect a third-party mixer to the S1 Pro channel 1, 2 or both.
Thanks so much ST for your prompt and informative reply ??
Happy to help.
just a couple of follow up questions & sorry if they are a bit “green”
would plugging into both channels of the S1 pro provide more “power?” ( with external mixer)
No. You won't get more power. If you can get a mono output from your QSC Touchmix, then you only need to connect to one channel on the S1 Pro.
which is preferable on the TS1 - master or aux ?
I looked at your previous posts. Are you using an L1 Model II? If so, then you can the T1 Master output or the T1 Aux ouput. The choice is up to you based on why you are using the S1 Pro.
The T1 Master output is a clone of what you send to the L1.
The T1 Aux can be a different mix (e.g. more vocal microphone, less instrument). That can be useful if you are using it as a vocal monitor. You can read more about that in the article below.
if I were to get two S1 pros would it simply be a matter of going out of each main out into a channel of each S1 for stereo?
Yes.
Finally is stereo possible with the TS1?
The T1 is a mono device. You can send some channels to the Main Output and some to the Aux Output, but it won't be stereo in the conventional sense. Bose has two new mixers; the T4S and the T8S. The S stands for stereo.
I was just actually looking into upgrading to the TS8 ,download the manual
then read where the TS8 is not designed to be used with the L1 model 2
Do you recall where you saw that?
can you confirm this ?
thanks again
The T8S was engineered to work with the L1 Model II, L1 Model 1S, L1 Compact, and S1 Pro (and L1 Classic and L1 Model I).
Bose engineered all the ToneMatch mixers (T1®, T4S, T8S) to offer the same excellent quality audio whether you use the ToneMatch cable (T1® or T4S) or a balanced cable (T8S) for audio.
If you are using good quality balanced cables there should be no difference between using any combination of XLR and 1/4 inch Tip-Ring-Sleeve connections.
The benefit of using the Cat-5 cable for the T1® or T4S is convenience because you don't need to use the T1®/T8S power supply. Unfortunately, the Model II Power Stand cannot supply enough power to operate a T8S. This is why a ToneMatch Power Supply is included with the T8S.
T8S Analog Outputs
The outputs on the T8S are analog. The RJ45 port is for the ToneMatch Power Supply that is included with the T8S. The RJ45 port cannot be used to connect to an L1® Model II or L1® Model 1S.
There are two balanced 1/4 inch (6mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve outputs (Left and Right). These are convenient for connecting to the L1® Model II or L1 Model 1S Power Stands as well as F1 Model 812s.
There are two balanced XLR outputs (Left and Right). These are convenient for connecting to other powered loudspeakers with XLR inputs.
it was point 9 (refer to photo) that had me worried but I think you have explained it in saying the L 1 model two is not powerful enough to for the TS8- in retrospect I didnt word my question very well so apologies 🙂
So for the TS 8 to work with the L1 do I need to go out of the Main L & R into the analog input of the L1 model 2 ?
also is it at all possible to hook up a T1 with the TS8 if say for example you needed 10 channels ?

I understand why it can be confusing. The documentation is attempting to be clear that the RJ45 port on the T8S is for power no digital audio.

Yes

just lashed out and brought both the S1 Pro and TS8 🙂
i should have asked previously with my question regarding the possible hook up of the TS8 & the T1
in this situation can the T1 be powered by the Ethernet cable?
whats the best way to connect each device - a channel/ aux or some other method?
thanks heap again ??
PS sorry I’ll be away from home with no way to test the devices hence wondering if in the above description I’ll need another power supply for the T1 ..?
In your situation, I would get another T1 power supply. You've got two ways to approach connecting the two ToneMatch mixers. Note: The T8S comes with a power supply.
T1 Master Output (with power supply) to T8S channel 9 (Aux input)
The T8S is connected through the analog connection to the L1 Model II Power Stand
T8S Right Output to T1 (connected directly to L1 Model II Power Stand).
The T1 does not require a power supply in this case
I would use option 1 because this makes it easy to use the T1 as a sub-mixer for one or two performers. Nothing you do on the T1 will affect the overall mix on the T8S.
Having the second ToneMatch power supply gives you the most flexibility as you try different approaches.
