Getting close to finishing an outdoor patio and pool at our house, just finished a deck that connects to it. All throughout the process outdoor sound has been a plan as well. I've had 251's and 151's permanently mounted outside at previous houses but was thinking to try a different direction. Would a pair of the S1 Pros be appropriate for outside music via Bluetooth? I'm aware that they aren't exactly "weather proof". Definitely opinion to any opinions here. Thanks!
Hello Mag,
As you stated, the S1 Pro is not weatherproof and therefore cannot be permanently installed outdoors. A pair of them do in fact work very well in temporary outdoor applications because of their portability and great sound coverage. I use them on my deck during the summer months and they sound great, however I bring them back indoors right after I'm done using them. A fully charged battery should last up to 11 hours and they can be paired in a stereo configuration using the Bose Connect app on a mobile device.
Hope that helps.
Thank you Jay_55 for the feedback here! My plan was to ha e both S1's on the deck or on the patio near the pool. Definitely will gave to bring them in/out as we or tge weather dictates. I was never too disappointed with the outdoor 251 Bose speakers we had at the last house but the bass response was not too impressive. Will the S1 Pros provide more noticeable bass? I think the run time on a charge will be great for us.
I've always felt that the bass was pretty good on the S1 Pros considering their size. The sound is nicely balanced. Keep in mind that the S1 Pro is a portable PA and has pretty good projection too. I believe there is a trial period that Bose offers on this system as well.
Yes I had noticed a pretty lengthy trial period. This is something I think I'm going to order here soon. Definitely a pair. I remember well how my outdoor 251's sounded with the Bose Amp so I think I'll see the difference quick. I'll post an update once I get them. Thanks!
Not so much...
For Small rooms the Bose S1 Pro is Awesome!
Outside... Something with the auto EQ is very weird!
I bought a large portable speaker for the outdoors.
I am very disappointed that Boss is not willing to listen to its customers and create a simple equalizer app for us - App will solved a lot of problems and frustration.
Bose - Plese don't bother to respond my reply - You always respond with the same robot auto message.
You may use any EQ App out there, but the sound will be much better with reduced volume and full bass or any active subwoofer that allow frequency adjustments like low and high cut.
Just wanted to give an update here. I bought the S1 Pro and so far have used it 3 times. All outdoors near our pool. Overall sound quality is very good. Bass output definitely beats the true outdoor 251 speakers with an Amp. Connectivity with Bluetooth is good but can be a bit quirky at times. Range of sound is excellent and clarity is good. Slight bit of distortion at very high or max volume. I'm planning to buy a second one for the use of party mode and stereo sound.
