S1 Pro outdoors

Hi!

I'm doing a gig on saturday, and I'm a little concerned whether I should just use my S1 PRO or go for the L1S/B2. The venue is outside a pub and is about 25 x 10 metres with the pub's outside wall at one side and a lake at the two other sides. Around 30 - 50 in the audience, mostly sitting down. I play acoustic and sing (Shure SM58). Anyone done something similar? All advice are welcome.

Thanks

Kjell

Hi Kelly,

In an enclosed space for 30 to 50 folks, the S1 would probable be sufficient and even outside for a quiet attentive audience without competing street sounds.

If you are practicing " social distancing" you probably will need to cover the complete 10 X 25 meters so I would suggest using the L1s. Turn it up as needed.

O..

I think you should be fine based on your description of the venue.  I do a similar gig playing seventies/eighties outdoors surrounded by the beach.  Having the natural acoustics of the outdoors assists greatly.  My acoustic guitar and vocals project well through the S1 Pro.  Ultimately it depends on the volume you are looking for.

Thanks!

I`ll take a chance on the S1 Pro.

Hi!

Did the gig on saturday. Everything worked perfect. Got compliments for the sound from a lot of people. Maybe I should trade in the LS1/B2 and buy another S1 Pro.....

Thanks for letting us know how this turned out.  Did you use a mixer or preamp of any kind or was your mic and guitar direct to the S1 Pro?

No, straight into the S1 Pro. A little reverb and ToneMatch settings on. I Think I'll use it more often!

Given the requirements of the pandemic and social distancing, we’ve been playing more outdoors, but to smaller groups of folks like 30-50 folks at a time. We did get a second S1 and daisy chained them together. We use a battery powered mixer (Behringer 1002B) to handle our 2 acoustic guitars and 2 vocals into the first S1, then line out from there to the second S1 both in speaker stands at about 5 feet high.

This setup has worked fine and we haven’t used our L1M2 with 2 B1s nearly as much, but will keep it for when we can play larger spaces with more people. In the meantime, the 2 S1s have worked out beautifully for our duo.

A pair of them do in reality paintings thoroughly in brief outdoor packages due to their portability and exceptional sound coverage. I use them on my deck at some stage in the summer time months and that they sound brilliant as you can see, but I bring them lower back indoors proper when I'm achieved using them.

Should work.  Hope you have it on a stand up high.  I would bring the larger system just in case.  Especially if it's windy.
