I would like to suggest a Software update dad will allow the user to plug a sub into the line out of the S1 With an adjustable high pass filter, so I can be connected to a sub woofer.
This is a great idea. It wouldn't have to be adjustable for me, just selectable between full range and bass line out.
Bose is probably better suited, than the consumer, to determine crossover frequency and curve for the bass line out to match the voicing of the S1.
Possibly optimizing the bass line out eq for the B1 module. Many consumers already own one or more B1's and the size and aesthetic is a good match.
Those consumers desiring larger subs with greater output could still use them.
A B1 is not powered. You’d still need to provide a power amp between the S1 and the B1.
True. And, for me, if it isn't an optional battery-powered sub, it somewhat defeats one of the primary advantages/features of the S1Pro: being a self-contained, battery-powered unit. (I realize for some users this may not be an issue.)
With your 2 - B1s or a single B2 (Too Big for the S1).
But, Archtop Eddy is right, it kind of defeats the spirit of the S1 and the ability to play in the middle of the woods and answer the proverbial question if a tree falls in the woods...your mic will pick it up. : )
And I 2nd the request for a battery powered sub. Use the same battery as that used in the S1....if you need to use 2 of them so be it. Have a spare or two interchangeable batteries for the S1 is not a bad thing either.
I'm pretty sure we have discussed battery powered subs before. Takes a lot of power, would probably be a different size battery, hard to cover the various needs of different types of users.
Changing the S1 line out to accommodate only the frequencies needed for low frequency reproduction might be a fairly easy mod. Making it selectable, only slightly more challenging. Tuning that frequency to a B1, something that, at least in my mind, fits the look and would cover the needs of a majority of S1 users, seems a win. Most importantly, the addition of a B1 tuned bass line out would not preclude anyone from using a different sub of their choice, as many, hungry for bass, currently do with other Bose products that carry a pre-contoured bass eq.
I, personally, don't consider the battery operation of the S1 as it's primary feature. The S1 provides amazingly good sound from a very small package, that is the primary feature, battery operation is the icing on top. While there are many conveniences associated with battery operation, for me, carrying any sub for those intimate, out of the way, power lacking locations defeats the convenience of the S1, even more so if the sub I would carry is 4 or more cubic feet of volume and 50 or 60 lbs.
If we are focused on the S1 line out being selectable for full range or bass line, it has to be tuned to something. Makes sense it would be tuned to something existing and matched in size to the S1. How that particular sub is powered is a different discussion.
Hi O. Didn't mean to throw the thread off track with the battery-powered sub request. As you noted, it's been discussed before. Some think it can't be done, some think maybe.. Let's let Bose decide whether they can/can't or will/won't do it.
Meanwhile, there's talk here about using B1s and and a Bose Power amp -- so has anyone tried this?
