S1 Pro system: Feature Requests and Suggestions

I was thinking in addition to the new stereo mode, it would be great to link multiple (more than two) S1 Pros wirelessly for a true party mode, where all speakers are fed wirelessly by the same single feed. Imagine being able to spread around (within reason/range) multiple S1 Pros running on battery and be able to create a portable distributed audio system. In this mode, each speaker could probably produce mono instead of stereo, but would be great to have the option to set it to stereo and be able to choose which speaker plays left vs right.

That would be great, I’m using a pair of S1 on my boat and I was looking on manual and online if there was a way to connect more than 2 using Bluetooth. I guess it’s not possible.

You can add two more by cable, @Jota Stroeter , using the line out jacks of each Bose S1 Pro to feed the next Bose S1 Pro.

A lot of people seem to be trying to rig up an external sub woofer to use in conjunction with the S1 Pro.  That said, it would be great if Bose could come up with a way to use a B1 or B2 bass module with the S1 Pro.  That would give people that have multiple systems to use components across platforms.

My original comments on the S1 after its introduction was that there was not enough bass and the responding replies then was that it had enough but now many are unhappy with the S1s ability to reproduce enough bass. So the requests of more bass in someway or another is adding to the cost of 600.00 plus whatever is needed to expand the bass to the S1. Bose failed to see the big picture market out there, from PA to monitor, to all the buskers and all the single players that setup anywhere. They lacked the foresight to make this S1 a truly versatile little star.

What an amp this little would be and could be make if only Bose gave it the wings it needed to fly into any musical situation with the flexibility and internal hardware needed to fulfill the desires of any musicianWhether it is a single performer gig or band type gig and is capable of performing out of doors or in on stage or the streets, small or large, all on its own mega star abilities. WOW!

This is what Bose's direction should be, to take this S1 with its bare potential and root talent and propel it into mega stardom and fly!

yea finally!

We use the Bose S1 at race events in the paddock, everybody really enjoys the quality of the speaker, i have 2 S1 PRO`s connected with the bose app in bluetooth mode using spotify.

It would be great to make a new firmware including app, were we could still connect the 2 Bose S1 Pro speakers over bluetooth, next to that, it would be great to have a setting in the app were if switched on, 1 of the S1 PRO speakers line out only sends signals bellow 150Hz (the S1 speakers only get signals above 150Hz), one S1 line out could then be plugged in a A1 Packlite with a 1 or 2 B1 subs. The gain slider will make it possible to set the balance between S1`s and Sub. In the new firmware maybe the same EQ settings of the line out can be programmed that make sure the B1 sound great..!!

To me it`s sounds as a great plan..!!

Subwoofer for S1 Pro

Bose Pro Community Admin

I suggest that Bose consider a sub for the S1 using a setup process similar to the Behrnger BD1200D. For me, the ideal S1 sub would be small, lightweight, battery-powered, and specifically engineered to augment the S1 — and connect to the S1 via an adjustable cross-over feature like the Behringer. Now that would be something!

Hey everyone...nice to be a part of this community. I am still amazed by how the S1 sounds...it defies logic....But as with the compact we all know that the S1 does lack in the low end. Its just physics right. Well here is my suggestion and sitting here I absolutely will tell you I would buy this if you make it. Pro S1 Bass. Yep you need to design and sell a battery powered sub to pair up with the S1 and the Compact....It needs to fit in a suitcase!!!  I need to be able to fly with a setup and with the S1 I am almost there...how many people that already own these or who are buying them would also buy a sub? I would predict most would buy ..... Especially if we could get the sonic nirvana I believe this would bring. You are so onto something here, take the final step, battery powered SUB.

Although I feel the simplicity of the S1 was it’s reason of creation... I see your point. Expandability is always nice and to use your own equipment when you travel is key. Bose is a smart company and is probably already working on a product that would fit the bill right as we speak! Perhaps a release right around the holidays would be a genius move.

High Pass Filter

I would like to suggest a Software update dad will allow the user to plug a sub into the line out of the S1 With an adjustable high pass filter, so I can be connected to a sub woofer.

Just thought of something really small, nifty & probably easily implementable for the S1 Pro (small physical design change).

I'd like to see 2 slots to hold either a Tablet (iPad) or a SmartPhone ... on both, the TOP and side ... so those slots are available, irrespective of which orientation the S1 is used in.

This could help performers to view their lyrics especially while using it as a monitor.

I’d like to see an option for Dante.

Digital Audio Network Through Ethernet

I think licensing issues/costs will make that a none starter

It will be a fine day in Bose paradise when they get themselves out of stone age and integrate modern day computer technology into their products. Being able to wireless connect to a Bose unit from a portable tablet to control its features would be bliss. Having wireless in-ear monitoring coming back out is a dream right up there with winning the lottery. Bose, please sort yourselves out. There's so much you need to catch up with!!

How much are you willing to pay for these added features?   Let’s face it, Bose prices are already very high, but they’re not going to include iOS/Android control and/or wireless monitoring for free.

Good question,

As you say. Bose is already high priced as it is. Also have to consider the average musician is already stretched financially to get one of these. On the other hand. These things do reveal mediocrity extremely well!! Turning you into a better performer. Also, we are not looking at altering the technology of the sound itself but only to dove-tail technology that has been around for a while. TACTICALLY, Bluetooth for control/management signals (reverb and volume(s). NOT tone as I don't believe tone control has a place in a power amp) and UHF for the in-ear monitoring. Software mixers out there are falling off trees. STRATEGICALLY, as you could spread this across quite a few Bose products, Wi-Fi for control and still UHF for in-ear monitoring. So maybe another 100, maybe 150 extra on the price. The rest would have to be carved off the profit they already make on an already expensive unit. Not a big ask as it would allow Bose to really frog leap a considerable distance on any competitor out there.

After countless gigs over the past two years with the S1 Pro, I've come to some conclusions I'd like to share. First off, it's been worth the money with how versatile it can be. I've used one for small solo gigs. I've used two as FOH or one as a monitor.  It works well in conjunction with other powered speakers and all in one acoustic pedals. It's been great for practice as a Bluetooth speaker and my outdoor BBQ's have never sounded better.

Where this speaker falls short is the amount of feedback you can get with certain active acoustic guitars. You can't get past 50% without getting some interference. And finally the number one thing this speaker needs desperately is a dedicated master system volume knob.  This would make it worlds easier to mix levels when used with other speakers, or even by yourself. Sometimes you have your mix down but then the pub picks up and instead of just having a master volume, you have to adjust each channel which can throw it all off.

That's my 2 cents for now.

Your experience mirrors mine.  A wonderfully flexible piece of gear!

I'd say the performance of S1s with acoustic guitars depends a lot on placement.  My partner and I have placed them on stands about 3 feet in FRONT of the microphone line (under a canopy) and can still monitor our electric guitars, vocals and my acoustic guitar and put out enough level to fill a quarter acre of Farmers Market.

And yes - it would have been great if they'd included:

1) A Master Fader.  I'd have been able to leave the mixer at home at times if they'd had one.

2) PHANTOM POWER -- it was a serious oversight not to include Phantom.  More gear I have to carry around.

3) And in the 'it would be nice' category, the ability to mix from a pad or phone connected via WiFi.  Although, I can understand how that may have increased the price at the time.

But all in all, probably the coolest piece of PA gear I've owned in the last 50 years.

As for feedback from an acoustic guitar, it's really all a matter of where you place the speaker and your eq.  Having too much bass on the guitar and/or the S1 can easily lead to feedback.  A feedback buster in the soundhole can get rid of a lot of these feedback issues.
