Sennheiser E945 preset for my mic?

mic is on the way…I’ll end up trying them all, but has anyone used a sennheiser E945, and which preset from my 2009 T1 should I start with? thanks

edit title: previously “preset for my mic? help”

Hi Krugjr,

For your Sennheiser e945 try
Category: Vocal Mics
Preset: Shure Beta 87A

or
Category: Vocal Mics
Preset: Sennheiser e855

ST…thanks for feedback and advice…you really helped me a lot when I got my system in 2009…I’ve been spending a lot of my non working time this year on Taylor guitars…and which one to play unplugged, and which one to play through my L1 B1 T1…kinda got that settled so I’ve been researching “mics and feedback” with the L1 this last month…seems most here at Bose recommend the OM5 or OM7…I couldn’t try them in person so I read as much as I could comparing the OMs to the Sennheiser and the Electro Voice ND 967…I’ll start there and only buy with a return policy, so we’ll see how this mic sounds…a little hard to believe I consider myself 80% vocalist and 20%- guitar player, and I’ve sung with the classic SM58 for 45 yrs…time to have a little fun with making my singing sound as good through my Bose as my Taylors do…again, I thank you for taking the time to shoot me some info!

Since you’ve answered that question to krugjr’s satisfaction, how about the preset for AKG D5 mic?

Thanks,
Wes

Hi wrahn,

Thank you for joining the Forum.

I did a search and couldn’t find many posts about the AKG D5.

JasonT-at-Bose recommended this Preset.

Please tell us how you are using your L1®. What model do you have?

Thanks for your quick response, I am not a professional, but I’ve been involved with doing karaoke at home with friends, and at my homeowners association club house, as well as, visiting assisted care facilities for sing-a-long entertainment. I have a JVC XL-MV7 three drawer karaoke player amp, Audix OM2 mic, AKG D5, Samson UR1 wireless mic, 2 RSQ P10 mics, an AKAI AMX6 Pro power mixer, three speakers, mic stands and speakers stands and boxes of CDs that I have used for about 10 years.

At age 74, it was becoming more difficult to haul and set-up all my equipment, so I moved into using MTU’s Computer Program, Hoster and my laptop as my karaoke player, so I didn’t have to haul CD boxes or the player. Last week, a friend brought his L1 Compact and T1 ToneMatch to my house for a karaoke party, and I was impressed with its simple setup and not having to haul my speakers and the stands plus the power mixer. I went to the Bose Store and bought the L1 Compact and the T1 and can check it out until the end of January which I’m currently trying to do.

I like the L1’s simple setup and not needing a separate monitor and the quality is there. I only wish it had the ability to dial in a little reverb. With that feature I wouldn’t need the T1 for my karaoke party. I’m sure the T1 is a wonderful mixer and preamp, but it appears to be much more than I need for the L1 compact being used for karaoke. Since setting up the T1 appears to be difficult, I’m looking at the Yamaha MG06X Mixer for use with the L1 for karaoke use. I found that I could also use my AKAI as a mixer with the L1. With the AKAI or the Yamaha MG6X mixer I can make adjustment on the fly during a performance, but the changing the T1 settings appears more difficult.

I’m sure the majority of professionals users of the T1 find it to be great to use with the L1. For us non-professionals, someone who knows how to do the setup should write the book “T1 ToneMatch Uses’s Guide For The Complete Idiot.” The T1 has the necessary features for a great setup, but I don’t have a clue how to do the setup for my use, I appreciate any information you can provide related to setting up the T1 for use with a few mics and a laptop input.

Thanks again,

Wes

Hi krugjr,

That’s my microphone and I have been happy with it for a decade.

last question for you if you get around to it, do you use any delay on the T1 or just the reverb? if so, what setting works for you?

Looking back - … - are you running a Model I?

When I run a Model I, Model 1S or Model II in a gig sized room, I rarely use reverb. Once I get the volume up high enough to perform the L1® excites the natural reverb in the room. No need to add more at the source.

I treat delay as an effect to be used for artistic purposes if the song calls for it. It’s not something I use all the time.

ST…I have the L1, Model 1, B1 and T1…thanks for feedback on effects…does the KMS 105 just go straight into the T1 or “through” something else? a very clean used 105 just went on ebay for 380…I was soooo tempted!

Hi krugjr,

I run the Neumann KMS 105 straight into the T1 and use the T1 Preset for KMS 105.

I do that most of the time, but it also works really well with the pre-processors that I’ve tried (although I lately I have stopped using those).

I should note that while I think that this is a great microphone and I really like using it, with the T1 Presets, you can get great results from other microphones too. I set up Audix and BeyerDynamic microphones on my stage too. The Presets make a huge difference.

For anyone unfamiliar with the concept,

Here is the story behind the ToneMatch® technology

ST…you nailed it! I tried every preset, with flat EQ, and the winner is the Shure Beta 87A setting… …close second was the Shure Beta 58A, and a distant third was the Shure SM58…I need very little EQ after that singing with tracks…maybe a 1.0 bump on the lows and that’s it…maybe a 1.0 bump on the hi if it doesn’t affect feedback…the e945 will take a little getting used to (super cardiod) vs the SM58 I’ve used for 40 yrs…the sound of the 945 is best when you’re right on the mic (I sing that way anyway) and then the clarity shines through the music and acoustic guitar and clearly out performs the SM58…now I’ll just have to wonder about the OM5, the EV e967 and the super hyped Heil PR35??? by time I buy and try all of those, I could’ve just got the KMS 105 and moved on…ha ha…last question for you if you get around to it, do you use any delay on the T1 or just the reverb? if so, what setting works for you? have a great day!
