Sorry, that device is offline (Alexa, spotify, soundbar 700)

Every time I ask Alexa to play something from Spotify Premium on my Soundbar 700, Alexa confirms that she is about to play the playlist or artist, then immediately says "sorry, that device is offline". However, I can play spotify by choosing playlists/artists in the Bose Music app or the Spotify app (selecting my soundbar as the device); Alexa responds correctly to other request (eg, the weather); the "Bose (not for SoundTouch)" skill is enabled in the Alexa app and the soundbar is reported as online by the Alexa app.

Any suggestions to fix this? Thanks.

I m still facing this problem even after speaking to the bose executives many a times in my bose home portable speaker.

It was working fine 2 days back with no changes in any settings either in the speaker nor wifi and when i use a hotspot of my fone it is working fine.

What should i do??

Spotify songs can not be played without the Spotify app. Because the format of the songs is Ogg Vorbis. So the songs are not compatible with Alexa.
To play Spotify songs in Alexa, you can convert the Spotify songs to MP3, FLAC, WAV, and other common audio formats. The DRmare Music Converter will help you achieve this goal. It can preserve all the parameters and ID3 tags during the conversion process. So you don't need to worry about the loss of information like artist, genre, composing, etc. View more detail, you can visit https://www.drmare.com.

Yea im getting the same issue when asking for preset music from TuneIn.

So I thought I'd call Bose to see what their support is like. The Bose rep was very nice and effectively provided the old solution: "have you tried turning it off and back on again?" Actually, I had tried that, but she suggested leaving it off for a full two minutes. I had previously only left it off for a few seconds. After the 2 minutes, I tried again and the problem was solved.

I think you should reinstall Spotify App If you can't then clear data and cache of Spotify and reconnect it

Hello PercyBottle,

Hello ryan.maasburg,

Thanks for posting.

Is this issue still occurring for you after the suggested reset?

Let us know.

Warm Regards,

Joel

HI Joel,

Ill test it again tonight and let you know

thanks

Hi Joel,

I unplugged the sound bar for 2 min and restarted it, I’m still experiencing the same issue. Asked Alexa to play triple M Melbourne and got a reply “that device is offline”

Hi ryan.maasburg,

Thanks for the update.  Have you been able to reboot the network by unplugging power from the router for 30 seconds?  Since this is a cloud based interaction, this may help with the performance.  Also, do you have a secondary Smart Home speaker, and does this issue happen to it as well?

Let us know so we can further assist!

Warm Regards,

New Soundbar 700.

I have the same issue(s). A quick look at other fora (eg Sonos) suggests this is a widespread problem.

If I say ‘Alexa’ – light comes on – ask for the weather – nothing happens; ask for music through Spotify – 'playing xxxx through spotify', then – 'sorry that device is off line.’

I have tried I think all the steps in the posts above with no joy, including:

Power cycling.

Delete all Alexa links to the Bose Soundbar 700 (through App and website separately), deregister Bose speaker, deselect voice assistant in Bose app, then re-link the entire lot again - no joy.

Maybe the problem is: Bose Skills (not for soundtouch) – wont link to anything.

Have done as per rishalsharma above, and no “viola”, sadly.

Very frustrated. I have wasted many hours of my time.

I have been using my Bose SoundBar 700 with Spotify for a year and a half. I was having issues with Apple TV and the sound bar and I had to reset it. Now when adding back Amazon Alexa, it will no longer connect to Spotify. It says that "the device is not connected." I have read the thread and tried all of the options it says.

I have made sure to reset the skills in the Amazon app, I have tried hard resetting the sound bar, I have deleted Spotify off the Bose music app and re-added it, and it still will not work. Additionally, if I try to play Spotify off of the Bose Music app there is a wheel that spins at the bottom and it will not play off the speaker. Please help!!!

I own the Bose 500 soundbar, Bose Portable Home speaker, Bose Home 500, and Bose Home 300.

I am currently having an issue with Spotify. All my speakers automatically pause Spotify when I ask Alexa to play Spotify. It also pauses Spotify even if I use the Bose app. It passes the music before anything plays. I know it is pausing the music cause I looked at the light indicator, and I am getting to flashing lines.

Everything was working fine on all speakers up until a couple of days ago.

I have tried removing Spotify from my Bose app and logging back in.

Hi

I have the same issue, I follow all the steps.

I even deregister the app from Alexa, from Soundtouch App iOS, Use Wifi, Use Ethernet, Change the name of the device Reboot.

It doesn't work. "That device is offline" whereas Alexa just detected it and add it to his device.

HELP please.

Hi Crystal00713,

Sorry that you are having difficulties with Alexa.

We have had reports that Amazon was facing technical difficulties with this function. These concerns have now been resolved, can you let us know if you are still unable to access your services?
