SoundLink Color II and Micro Firmware Update - 3.0.3- November 19th

On Tuesday November 19th, 2019, a new firmware update will be available for the SoundLink Color II and SoundLink Micro Speaker. This update will be available on the Bose Updater site here and on the Bose Connect App.

The 3.0.3 update includes the improvements:

  • Pairing with Windows 10 is easier than ever before
  • Fixed bugs and did some general cleaning up under the hood

Does this firmware update by any chance address the (universally acknowledged) issue where restarting some paired devices (Windows, Mac and some android phones) cause the speaker to wake up by itself?

It’s quite the nuisance...

Yeah, I got really excited about this as well, as this behavior is extremely annoying. I just updated and unfortunately no, it's not fixed.

I tried with an Android phone, and both after a phone restart and after turning the bluetooth off/on, the Soundlink Micro turns back on without asking. *sigh*

Come on Bose, this is a huge issue and it exists since the release of the product. Could you please fix it?

No, that's the whole point, it didn't. I had it for months working perfectly fine before a firmware update suddenly added the "feature"...

I only learned recently that it was possible to roll back the version until a while back... **bleep** it. I should have done my research when the issue first arose.

I have been endlessly annoyed at my Soundlink Color II waking itself up and telling me about it.  This is not a feature, and it needs to be disable-able.  Bose, fix this, your customers are, and have been asking for this for a long time.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Bose Community Forums.

As you know, the auto on is a feature that allows any previously connected speaker to be powered on remotely via the Connect app. This feature is primarily intended for ease of use when creating a stereo or party mode pairing, but will also work when you drag to connect any compatible speaker within the app.

I understand that this is a feature that some users would like disabled. A request has been submitted to the development team, asking for the option to turn this feature off in the app.
At this moment in time, I do not have any updates on this.

I do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards,

Vicky W

Hello Vicky,

Thanks for the response, and for submitting a request about fixing this issue. I understand what the intention is for this feature, but I want to drive home the severity of the problem it causes.

I have the speaker connected to two phones nearby, and so whenever either of them restarts or have the Bluetooth dis/enabled then the speaker just turns on by itself. And because it can connect to two devices at the same time, now it steals any audio on the second phone as well. If somebody is on a call on the second phone, the speaker might just randomly take over the call (even if they are in a different room), or start playing music that was playing on the phone. This a serious bug for me instead of a feature.

This might not play out this way on other systems, like iOS, but it's definitely a huge issue for Android, and I think this use case is not uncommon (having multiple phones connected to one speaker)

Thank you again for the response, looking forward to some kind of solution to this.

Making the auto-on feature toggleable to on/off should be a very basic software adjustment for Bose developers. Bose, please get this added to the next software update.

Hey after the install of the last update on my soundlink color 2 they started to act funny, first issue is if i want to link them in party or stereo mode, after i connect it loses connection and then it powers off and it wont start until i put them on charge even if the battery its 100%. Is there any chance that i can reinstall the update or downgrade to the previous firmware ? until now everything was fine. Please help at the moment i cant use them as a pair

Hello Cocojan,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the Bose Community.

I'm deeply sorry to hear that you're unable to connect your two SoundLink Color II speakers. This certainly shouldn't be happening and I'd love to help resolve this.

To begin, did you install the firmware update via the Bose Connect app or through the Bose Updater site? If the app, please head to the Bose Updater site on your computer and manually install the update if possible. This will ensure that the firmware update was installed without any errors.

I would also recommend that you factory reset the speakers.

  1. Power on your product
  2. Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds until the Bluetooth® light glows blue and you hear a voice prompt to select a language.

This will erase settings so I would recommend that you delete the speakers from any previously connected devices and establish the connection again.

Once you have completed the above steps, please get back to me and let me know if the issue persists.

Warm regards,

Charlotte G
