Soundlink Mini Aux connection drop out

Our Bose Soundlink Mini is connected to an input (which happens to be a Amazon Echo Dot) by Aux cable. When I first set this up it worked fine. Even when there was no input from the source it continued to show the 'Aux' lit up and gave sound when needed. Recently when there has been no input the 'Aux' goes off and we have to press the power button on the Soundlink Mini for it to illuminate again and the speaker to give sound. I have contacted Bose by email and they kept telling me how to get the Bluetooth working even though I repeatedly told them it was an 'Aux' issue then they said it was an Echo Dot issue and I should contact Amazon. I don't believe it is a Dot issue as it could be any Aux input. Anyone got any ideas how I can resolve this? I have checked that the speaker software is up to date and done a reset.

Hi Exfordy,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Bose Community.

I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with communicating with us via email. The Soundlink Mini has an auto-off feature where if there is no audio playing and there has been no interaction with the system by a user, the system will turn off automatically after 30 minutes. Any incoming audio or system interaction within this period will prevent the system from turning itself off. This could be why you are having this issue.

When this set up worked previously, how long was the gap between the system outputting audio?

Kind Regards,

Hi Vicky,

Sorry for late reply - I hadn't seen your message.

Previously we could have a period of a day or two and the Aux would still remain connected. I.e the 'Aux' would remain lit on the speaker. I have read in the manual 'Note: If a connected device stops playing audio for 30 minutes, the speaker automatically turns off to conserve battery power.' We never use the speaker on battery only power; it sits on its charger all the time.

I have tried all the suggestions on page 27 of the manual for 'No audio from the AUX source'

I assume I need a way to disable the auto-off feature. I can't find that in the manual.

Regards,

Brian

Hello Exfordy,

Thanks for your reply.

I can confirm there is no auto-off disable function available for the SoundLink Mini. If this has remained on in the past, the Echo Dot may have been emitting something that was preventing the signal from detecting zero response. Despite the speaker being plugged into power, the speaker will engage auto-off if no signal is detected within 30 minutes of non-use as a power saving measure.

Kind regards,

Not being able to disable the auto-off feature is intensely frustrating. Is it conceivable that a software update could be made by Bose to enable this feature? Failing that could anyone tell me how to alter the circuitry in the unit to disable the auto off?

I tried asking Bose on line chat for a contact in Bose Product Development but - not unexpectedly - they replied "We do not have the direct contact information for our development team but we can take note of your feedback about our products and we'll forward it to our management team." Yeah right...

I have a Bose soundlink plugged into my Amazon dot using the aux port on soundlink. After ~ 30 minutes, the aux port light on Amazon goes off and music stops. This is completely unacceptable and I want a fix for this problem. Does bose have a firmware update to resolve this?

I just emailed BOSE too. This is beyond unacceptable when they could in reality release some kind of update for this via firmware update and they never CARED about releasing firmware for this $200 device(I know BIG money). A lot of people are using ALEXA and Google devices now and they need to put an end to this!

I have the same problem. I just purchased a mini and have it plugged into my kitchen TVs aux out with variable output set on the TV and use the TV remote to control volume. I was previously using the older cube shaped sound link with no issues but the mini looks better and fits under the TV.  Even though I can hear the sound from the TV at a low and reasonable volume, 35%, the mini will stop playing after a few minutes. I have tried different cables, iPhones, resets, plugged into AC vs battery etc. it always stops playing and power and AUX lights remain lit.  And auto off is disabled per the manual. This is obviously a design flaw. I would like to know if this is going to be fixed with a firmware update, if that is possible. If not I need to return it soon for a refund. Thank you.

I have the same problem for both Bluetooth and Aux connectivity to an iPhone 5. The connection drops off sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after a longer period. Sometimes the power light is green, sometimes it blinks yellow. The Soundlink is plugged into the AC power most of the time but the power light is not consistent. I replaced the battery this year after 6 years of usage. I tried the factory reset but that didn't help.

I seemed to have resolved the problem. I did another reset holding the mute button for 10 seconds. Since then, I haven't lost the connectivity with direct wired connectivity on AUX or bluetooth. The power light is also a steady green. Go figure!
