Soundlink Revolve won't charge in Portable

Yep, I know I'm not the first with this problem.  If you're reading this you've probably had the same **bleep** problem.  I saw other threads about it here but it wouldn't let me chime in on those so I had no choice but to start yet ANOTHER thread about this.

I bought a Soundlink Mini II.  It quit charging after several months.  I thought it must be a fluke since these things are very popular.  Went through troubleshooting with Bose.  Got it to charge again for a while but it soon the problem returned.  Got fed up, took it back to Costco for a new one.  The new one worked for an even shorter period of time (couple months, maybe?) and then started to do THE SAME THING!  Called Bose.  They offered to exchage my Soundlink Mini II for a (supposedly) NEW AN IMPROVED Soundlink Revolve (although they wouldn't give me a charging cradle like my old speaker had... which ticked me off).  Problem solved, I thought!  So I patiently waited weeks without a speaker until the new Revolve arrived.  It finally came and it worked like it should-- for a couple weeks.

Now the Revolve is doing the SAME **bleep** THING!!!!!  Let me repeat that... THE SAME **bleep** THING!!!  Third time is not a charm!  It won't charge anymore.  This is no longer a fluke.  Plug it in and the orange light pulses but the battery level drops even while it's plugged in and sitting idle!  Yes I'm using the factory cord (I don't have a cradle because Bose is too **bleep** tight to offer me one).

So **bleep** gives, Bose?!!  This is UNACCEPTABLE!  I'm on my 3rd Bose bluetooth speaker and EACH ONE has gone bad in short order.  Eveyone I talk to at Bose acts like this is the first time they've ever heard of such a problem.  They act so surprised!  They say this must be a very isolated incident!  Whatever!  When I come to these forums I see people having this issue left and right!!  Pardon my french but this is BULL**bleep**, Bose!  Give me my money back so I can buy a reliable bluetooth speaker from another manufacturer!  I don't need a $200 paper weight.  I'm tired of wasting hours on the phone and online troubleshooting this flawed product(s), let alone the weeks in wait without a speaker.

So what's it gonna be, Bose?  I'm listening.  I'm sure lots of other interested eyes will be watching this too.

My Bose Revolve didn’t charge. When I connected it to power the charge sound plays and the yellow charge lad glows but no charge after a few hours and Revolve didn’t switch on at all, after performing soft resets and after connecting to power and pressing the power button it said battery low that’s it.

I started google the problem and find no exact solution.

Then I connected the Revolve to my laptop using mini-USB and downloaded software updater from Bose website. The Revolve appeared in Updater app and suggested the software update, after the update the Revolve went back to life.

I hope it will help to a lot of users bring back to life their Revolve. It’s strange to me that BOSE didn’t clearly advise this solution on their website.

My revolve has the same problem.

It is charging with the original USB powersupply and cable. Orange LED flashes slowly indicating that is is charging. But it is not charging! Battery level slowly decreases.

I tried updating the firmware. No effect. Tried another charger (Aukey) an cable. Still no effect. Tried a reset (three times). No effect.

So what the deal here, a broken USB port? A bad battery?

I have two Soundlink Revolve and they both have the problem. Sometimes they just won't charge. When I start charging and it doesn't do the BEEP sound, I know they will not charge at all.

The only way I can make them charge again is to use them until the LED flashes RED and then do a reset. Sometimes I can charge after first reset and sometimes I have to do the reset several times. Very frustrating but in the end it works.

Let me say it this way: Whenever I need to charge my Revolve and I hear the BEEP sound, I feel lucky, because most of the times it won't charge before I have done the reset as described above.

Hi MrkWinther,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.

Please ensure that your speaker is running the latest software via the Bose Updater. I would also recommend that you perform a product reset on the speaker, this can be performed via:

  • Unplug the speaker from power, then turn it on using battery power
  • Press and hold the Multi-function (•○•) button for 10 seconds until the product lights glow, then release the button.

Can you please let me know if you are charging directly to the speaker or with the charging cradle?

Kind Regards,

Hector B - Community Support

Hi,

I'm charging directly to the speakers.

I will update both of them to 1.5.0 using the Bose Software Updater.

Also I will do the product reset as you suggest.

Br Kim

Hi Mrkwinther,

Thanks for updating me on this.

I look forward to hearing back from you after these steps.

Kind Regards,

Hector B

Hi yatsek,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Bose Community. I am deeply sorry to hear that you are also experiencing a charging issue with your SoundLink Revolve and would love to assist you with this.

Rather than updating the speaker via the Bose Connect App can you please attempt to update this via connecting the speaker to a PC and using the Bose Online Updater to update your speaker? I would also recommend that if you are using a charging doc to bypass this and charge the speaker directly via the USB charging port, if you are already doing this then please try charge the speaker via a different power outlet.

Once you have performed the update and charged the speaker directly can you please perform a product reset by:

  • Disconnect the power cord
  • Power on your product using battery power
  • Press and hold the Multi-function (•○•) button for 10 seconds until the product lights glow.

Should you still experience issues, we recommend getting in touch with our Customer Service Team to explore available service options for your speaker by clicking this link. Kindly scroll and select your region, once this is done please scroll to "Contact Us". The team will be on hand and ready to help.

I still don't have a good technical explanation for the following.  Was having battery/power issues with my two Revolves in 2019 - sent them both in for new batteries and boards.  Issues remained.  In January got two brand new ones with Jan 2020 manufacturing dates.

One unit, I can charge to 100% and then turn it off at the top into BLE mode.  Come back a day or two later and it is still at 100%

The other unit, I turn off with the multifunction key and then use an app to insure it is indeed totally off with no BLE signal coming out.  I wait a couple of days and it is between 70% and 90%.

Thanks Didan.

I had the same issue with my Soundlink Revolve which I've had for a number of years and love. Never any problems until two days ago when I noticed that it wasn't charging. I found this post fairly quickly (either luck or good search terms :-)) and followed your advice/solve path.  And, hey presto!!!

Thanks again!

Well, it seems that it was my turn to experience this problem. It is at the same time a relief and kinda frustrating to learn that it is not an uncommon one: a more elegant solution should have been delivered by the BOSE team by now.

For the time being, I've been lucky updating the Revolve via USB (it had the latest version of the firmware, but updated through Bluetooth). Once the update process finished, I've tried plugging again to the power source and this time I've heard that beep sound that indicates the device is effectively charging.

Add me to the list. Same problem. I have gone through all the recommended steps with I luck.

i am able to update the speaker from my PC, so the cable is not the issue. Is it electronic or software?

 Thanks.

Thanks, gave the solution in message 56 a try, it appears to be charging again !! Trying to sort a friends Revolve, I have one too, so I'll know where to look when I need this fix for mine.

(I do not work for Bose)

Glad you got it to charge.  Here it is for people try to 'fumble' through the pages to get it:

https://community.bose.com/t5/Portable/Soundlink-Revolve-won-t-charge/td-p/186627/page/6

Through experience I found that this worked for all my units though in some cases I had to perform the procedure multiple times.  I still believe that the 'issue' involves the Bose Revolve firmware but Bose has never commented on it or even acknowledged the 'problem' (of not charging to 100%).

I am very careful to make sure my Revolves only charge on a 2 amp USB port (two lightning bolts for a battery charger, for example)..  I have had 5 Bose Revolves (3 new units across two exchanges).  My current two units seem to hold charges when not used or go to 90% and knock wood/keyboard 🙂 continue to charge as expected to 100%.

I have !!  And I am now on update 3.1.1.    This is a Bose issues that they deny exists despite pages of comments on Bose Community

Am finished with Bose and speaker will be in bin by end of this week !

I received a Bose Revolve Speaker as a Gift for Christmas from work... I loved it... at first...

Now I too have the dreaded WON'T Charge issue.

I'm at 10% battery life and I plug it in with the Mini USB cable it came with and NADA.

I tried the Wall Charger.  NADA.

I tried other Mini USB cables in different ports around my house I know are working.  NADA.

I read making sure it's on the newest firmware will fix the issue so I tried the updater on my PC through USB.  The Speaker just keeps saying "Ready to Connect" and never does. Tried unplugging and resetting and difference cables. Tried  it in 4 different browsers... NADA.

So I downloaded the Bose Connect App. on my iPhone 11Pro.  It wont let me update the firmware because the speaker is at 10% ( says it must be at 20%  >< ) so NADA.

I tried the Soft reset.  and all these steps again....NADA

I tried the Full Factory Reset: and all these steps again....NADA

As a last resort I just ordered the Charging Cradle from Amazon.( $29)  If that doesn't allow me to charge this thing, I'm taking it to my next target practice at the Gun Range and posting this story and links to this community board and that Video on every social media site I can find.

Why so cross?  I read ALL 12 pages of these comments and you know what Bose's solution is?  NADA!

Have a nice Day !

(I do not work for Bose)

Have you tried the method I have personally used and described in this community when a Revolve refuses to charge?  I have lost count - I think I have used it 8 time now on 5 different units.  Every time a success (sometimes I have had to do it more than once)?

You mean this?

"

1. Turn off by holding down the multifunction key.

2. Plug in and tap power button until it comes on.

3. Unplug

4. Power on and initialize by holding down the top power key for at least 10 seconds.  If won't work try with plugging in first.

5. Power off and power on to get english language prompt.  Do not process at this point, yet...

6. Power off and plug in to charge."

Thank you.  I thought I did, but... I spent several hours trying everyone's suggestions here and reddit and youtube... etc.... so I'm not 100% sure.  I will give it a shot! ( again maybe? ) 🙂

IF that doesn't work, I'm waiting for my Charging Cradle to come in, hoping that does the trick. A few people said it made the difference when the USB for powder supply wouldn't work, though I have my doubts it will make any difference.

yes - worked for me 8 different times though on a couple of them I had to do it two or three times.  Also make sure you always use a 2 amp USB port - not a PC or monitor USB.  Either a 2 lightning bolt USB on a charger or a wall plug.

Hi. My Bose Soundlink Revolve won't charge through the USB cable. Have tried multiple cables. It connects but then battery light simply flashes yellow. Tried to update. Less than 20% power so won't update through the app. So, hooked up to laptop through USB. 'Updater' page doesn't change and recognise the device. I am pulling my hair out. Suggestions, please.
