Speaker placement

I have a pair of F1 speaker systems (including 2 812's and 2 subs).  I have 4 big school proms coming up, each of them in a wide open gym.  Assuming I will be placed near the wall, but in the center of the gym, with both speaker systems facing out toward the crowd, what is the best possible placement for them?  Should they both be STRAIGHT out, or would it be better to aim them out in a V-shaped angle?  Which setup would cause more noise cancellation issues?  Also, since I'm on the floor (not a stage), I assume it's best to run the flexible baffles in a straight up and down pattern?

Great.

Thanks for the background information. That's helpful.

what is the best possible placement for them?  Should they both be STRAIGHT out, or would it be better to aim them out in a V-shaped angle?

The horizontal dispersion of the F1 Model 812 is 100 degrees for the mid-high frequences. The low frequencies are omnidirectional.

Keeping the horizontal dispersion in mind, aim the F1 Model 812s so they cover where the people will be with the least amount of overlap. There's no perfect way to do both so there will always be some overlap.

Which setup would cause more noise cancellation issues?

The potential for cancellation is in the area where the sound fields of the two F1 Model 812 systems overlap. For prerecorded music, and with people in the audience moving around and dancing, you may not notice any cancellation.

Also, since I'm on the floor (not a stage), I assume it's best to run the flexible baffles in a straight up and down pattern?

Yes, the Straight position will give you the least amount of unwanted reverberation of mid-high frequencies.

Does that help?

Hi Tony,

Do you have (by any chance) any pics from the prom to get a glimpse of the speaker placement in the gym? We're planning to order a Dual F1 Model 812 with T8S ToneMatch Mixer. What is the maximal length of the cable and can it be increased? Our school gym is under constuction now and it's being resized, so I can't tell the exact numbers.
