Strange one channel weirdness

Tonight I used a Bose L1M1 with 1 B1 with aMackie 1202VLZ3 mixer and a vestax vci 300. Mackie was TRS in the Left 1/4" main out to channel 3 on the Bose, which according to the Mackie manual and the way I understand a lot of gear to work, is “jack normalized” to be mono out. It has a mono aux send, but not a main out. i probably should have tried the aux out.

ANYWAY. When I played a few Beatles songs, Here Comes the Sun (from an itunes ripped original CD) and some others from similar sources, it sounded like I was only hearing one channel in the mix, not 2.

on other newer songs it sounded normal.

i ended up just getting another TRS cable and going into channels 1 and 2.

all was fine.

but i usually do mono as the L1M! is mono device.

ST, hit me

what the dilly yo?

Hi Loveinthemix,

From what I can see in the Mackie 1202VLZ3 manual

the ¼ inch jack main output jacks are not normalled.

They way they write documentation at Mackie, I would have expected them to make a big deal about it if the ¼ inch jacks were normalled.

So you’ll have to use two outputs and two inputs on the L1® - OR use mono inputs on the the Mackie, and pan them all to one side (e.g. LEFT) and then you could send the LEFT Output (only) to the L1®. From what I recall on the Mackie mixers, you cannot pan the stereo line inputs.

Does that help?

completely. i normally use the T1 when i do 1 L1, but this job needed 4 mic inputs, and I didn’t want to monitor one of them hunched over the base.

i wonder, though, just out of curiosity, why I only noticed the mistake on a couple songs, whereas others sounded completely fine

You could the R1 Remote to manage the microphone you connect directly to the Power Stand.

It would depend on how the songs were originally mixed. I there was nothing that was exclusively in the right (RIGHT) channel on the original track, I can see how you might not miss it, especially since, so often, the lead vocal is panned up the middle.
