Since the L1 Compact does not have that Tonematch Port connection between the unit and the T1/T4S engine like the Model 1/1S/2 does, so it has to be connected via its 1/4" input. Does that cause any inferior performance of the T1/T4S?
And second question, can the T1/T4S be used with other non-Bose speakers and still give good performance as with the Bose L1 speakers?

We can't know how an L1 Compact would sound if it had a ToneMatch port. However, Bose engineered the L1 Compact to be compatible with the T1 using a balanced cable connected to the L1 Compact Channel 2.
T1 to L1 Compact
Bose engineered the L1 Compact to be compatible with the T1 using a balanced cable connected to the L1 Compact Channel 2.
¼ Inch Tip-Ring-Sleeve (balanced) to ¼ Inch Tip-Ring-Sleeve (balanced)
A balanced connection is preferred and will provide better noise rejection over greater distances than the unbalanced connection.
¼ Inch Tip-Ring-Sleeve (unbalanced) to ¼ Inch Tip-Sleeve (unbalanced)
This should work fine but a balanced connection (immediately above) is preferred especially if you will have cable runs in excess of 20 feet (6 meters) or if you hear line noise, hum or hiss.
