T1 Set-up Advice

Hi Guys…I always value anothers expertise…isn’t that how we all get better!!

I finally got my L1 System about a month ago…(I actually have always been a Bose supporter…got my first set of 802’s in 1979…they still sound great…shows what a great company and taking care of your equipment will do for you.)…Anyway…I’m thinking about getting a T1 to use as my mixer…from what I’ve read here it is the only way to go…I’m currently using a Soundcraft Spirit E Series…Need your advice on using it with the inputs I need…Here’s what I got:

My mic: EV RE2
Dual Mics I use for Karaoke: 2 seperate XLR
Dell Computer
Backup CD / CDG Player: (Used only when customers bring their own discs)

I think I’ve figured out the best way to do this but what would you do??

Also: I have always just come out of my headphone jack from my computer: I had upgraded the internal soundcard when I got the computer…was thinking of getting the new Echo Digital Indigo DJx…is this really necessary if you’re running your computer through the T1?

Again…I appreciate your input…Thanks inadvance!
Smile

Hi George,

Do you have a Model I or Model II?

How to tell

At a glance it looks like the T1® has enough inputs regardless of which L1® model you have, but it’s good to know the full context.

You could do this.

T1® Channels
1 - EV RE2
2 - Vocal Microphone - Karaoke
3 - Vocal Microphone - Karaoke
4/5 - Backup CD / CDG Player through physical input jacks AND Dell computer via USB

The Dell computer connects via USB and can be routed to Channel 4/5 as well. This will work fine although it will sound odd if you run the computer and the CD / CDG Player at the same time.

I would drop the connection from the computer headphone jack. You won’t need it if you run USB. The T1® will replace your computer soundcard. I don’t know the functionality of the Echo Digital Indigo DJx, but if all you need is a nice soundcard, you will have that if you run computer to T1® USB input.

Does that answer your questions?

I totally agree with ST, by going USB to your T1 you not only get better sonic performance that we’ve all been experiencing, you also leave an extra channel free for something else. The Echo cards are really good from what I hear, but I would only resort to that if I’m running two laptops, or need to go analog out for whatever reason. I’m a huge T1 fan as you can tell. I own a M1 classic and a M2, and can’t even imagine not using either without the T1!

Hi ST,

Thanks for the advice…Yes, I forgot to mention I have the Model 1…1 tower and 2 B1’s I don’t ever run the computer and CDG deck at the same times.

Also, what about running an effects processor for the vocals??

Did you mean if I run the computer through the USB you don’t need to go into 4/5??

Thanks again!

Good. No harm would come of it, but it would be goofy.

The T1® has plenty of effects for vocals. And you can run these independently for each Channel.

So you can have separate settings for reverb, compressor, EQ, delay for each channel. (Type of reverb is shared but degree to which it is applied is independent).

You can use USB with or without Channel 4/5.

The advantage of using 4/5 is that you then have control over volume, EQ, other effects and you can apply a Preset.

Here are some more details on the DJ page in the wiki.

Connect a Computer to T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine Through USB

George, I use the EI dj card so I can beat mix or cue if I need to. I don’t see how you can cue if you use the usb approach.

I go from my EI card to the t1. I use pcdj x vrm.

I use the t1 and otsav. my main output goes from computer(usb) to t1.

my cue channel goes to the laptop soundcard(headphone jack) works great.

Scott,

Can this configuration be used with a Laptop Player other than OS?

How can you play one song via USB and simultaneously hear another from Headphone Jack?

Assuming you have edited your material before going to Laptop, why is listening to the cue item necessary?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure he can't. The factory soundcard does not split player 1 and player 2 signals. Only an echo indigo dj or similar type of card does.

Dynamite
OTS can take a feed from a second internal or external sound card and use that for its main output. The internal sound card can be configured to act a ‘cue’ channel allowing you to pre listen should you need.
So Scott was right. I have licences with various other DJ software and OTS is the only one that allows this ‘splitting’ of two soundcards.
