I've been searching everywhere to find some information about this but have been unsuccessful.
I currently run my iPad 2 (old school!!) into my T1 Tonematch using a "Golden Gate" 30 pin to stereo RCA cable.
I'm looking at getting a new 2018 iPad Pro with USB-C and was wondering the best method to connect this up the the Tonematch.
Does anyone have any experience with plugging the iPad directly into the USB-B port on the the T1. Is there such a lead (USB-C to USB-B) or would i need to a USB-C to USB-A converter first? Would the iPad recognise the T1 is connected and treat it accordingly by sending line level audio out to the T1?
As an alternative, wire free option..... how good is Bluetooth these days compared to a wired connection? It would be great to go wireless but I'm guessing I would need an AirPlay 2 capable bluetooth receiver for the T1 which presumably would need power so may not actually help in reducing cable clutter.
I'm confusing myself writing all this so any help would be hugely appreciated from the community.
Just as a bit of background if needed.... I'm running an L1 Model 2 with the 2 x B1 Bass modules and the T1 Tonematch. I'm a solo singer and have been using this as my full time gear for over a thousand gigs since Oct 2012. I'm just using the iPad to run backing tracks.
I look forward to hearing back from anyone who can help.
Following. I would like to find out how you use Bluetooth for your backing tracks. I’m using a very similar set up and have been trying to work out how to start a backing track (played on iPad) remotely so I can start my intro track before I get to the stage, as I’m walking through the room. I work as a solo Dolly Parton tribute act and this would really enhance the staging for my show.
Well, just a follow up on my original post, I’ve ordered the iPad so I guess I’ll find out about how the USB-C thing works and report back. It would seem interesting might only be me that even cares about finding out, but just in case..... lol
i think as far as the Bluetooth goes, I’d be interested to find a good quality battery powered receiver as I’m trying to eliminate cables so needing to find an extra power outlet to power the receiver seems to cancel out the benefit I would get by having the iPad wireless. I can understand how it works for you Jerome as I’m guessing for some, being able to have the iPad further from the desk is beneficial, but wouldn’t help me particularly, I just want to plug less stuff in 🙂
I've been thinking about the new iPad Pro, but it seems like I just got the 2017 iPad Pro 12.9. Please let us know how your new iPad with USB-C works with the ToneMatch mixer.
Ipad arrived today. I can confirm it DOES NOT WORK directly. I purchased a cable as above (USB-C to USB-B) and connected the T1 to the iPad Pro. It recognises it briefly (shows Bose Usb Audio) but then won't play, then flicks about a bit then reverts to sound coming from the iPad.
I will try to get an Apple USB-C to USB-A converter and then use my usual need but this is NOT an elegant solution. I'm not sure if this is a Bose issue or an Apple issue. I have heard some rumblings that Apple may have switched the audio pins in their USB-C port. Why they would want to do that is beyond me but I will endeavour to make this work. Really disappointing if I can't do this with one cable.
Hi TheLoungeSinger, did you ever manage to solve this problem? I am trying to do something similar and had an identical problem with the USB cable.
Interestingly I can get a good signal from the Bose mixer (mine is a T4S) into the IPad pro but I can’t get anything coming back - it just plays through Ipad audio.
the Edit above was just an amendment to my original post where I said that you could connect a USB-C device. As I'm not sure about this (I've never tried it) I decided to remove that part of the post.
Hi All. Am new to this forum but as a long-standing user of L1 Model 2 with TS1 and iPad I have been using it for backing tracks (solo) and have only ever connected via the USB socket using a USB-C to female mini audio jack on the other. I then connect it to the TS1 via another cable which is male stereo mini-jack to twin 1/4 inch male jacks. That way the full stereo image is sent to the TS1 via channel 4/5. You will of course know that the TS1 and L1 Model2 then adds them together and outputs mono.
My interest in your thread is because I am considering upgrading to a TS4. During my ‘research’ I noticed it seems one should be able to connect a PC to TS1 directly via a single USB-C to USB-B cable. However, like you, I tried this once with my iPad and couldn’t get it working. I will try again this week but I suspect the iPad is not recognised as a “computer” or the TS1 doesn’t recognise it as such.
Not sure if the TS4 would be any better.
Can anyone provide an update please? Particularly interested in TheLoungeSinger - how have you been getting on and what solution now works for you?
(PS: I wouldn’t trust Bluetooth due to it’s latency for one thing)
