T1 Tonematch as a preamp and mixer for streaming

Hello, haven't been on for years but still using my old L1 Model 2 with T1 Tonematch (when we can get out gigging again).

Anyway, been doing numerous live stream performances and finding I need to do this by connecting my output to a laptop or macbook.  Then killing the speaker and hearing my own playback with headphones.  My assumption has always been that I cannot use the T1 ToneMatch as a mixer on its own and output the USB to laptop directly without it being connected to the speaker array - because it gets its power from there.  Is it possible to get a cable to merely provide power to the mixer so I can?

Thanks

Hello BrianGold,

Absolutely!  You need the "Bose ToneMatch Mixer Power Supply", available from most locations selling Bose L1 gear.  It's been available since the T1 first came out, for those who wish to use the T1 (or later, the T4S or T8S) with the L1 Compact, S1 Pro, F1, or non-Bose equipment.

If you still need to use your L1 Model 2 as a live monitor, you can run a 1/4" TRS - 1/4" TRS cable from the T1's main out to the L1's analog in.  This way, if you boost your master volume on the T1 to push a more robust signal to your laptop, you can turn down the trim knob on the Model II to keep from blasting yourself out.

(FYI for those who may be reading along and aren't aware -- the T8S comes with the power supply included, the T4S does not.  Why?  The T8S uses more power, and the L1 Model II and Model 1S couldn't supply enough power for it from the ToneMatch port.  The new L1 Pro 8, 16 and 32 can.)

Does that help?

Brilliant reply, many thanks Fish54!  Will give it a go.  I understand about using the L1 as a monitor, maybe not the full top array is ness but may save me having to use in-ear monitors!

Thanks again, stay safe

Hi Fish,

Bad news.  It doesn't work.  I've just tried it with a USB B -> A cable (cable works coz conencted T1 to my PC and it sees it fine).  The USB is from T1 to an iphone camera adapter which converts to lightning connection but nothing is getting through to my iphone (SE-2020).

I've made an assumption here of course that the output from the USB port can be read by my iphone.  I wonder if this is a wrong assumption?

Hello, BrianGold,

Unfortunately, it's a wrong assumption ... the iPhone does not see the T1 as an audio device.  I assumed (my bad) that you would continue to feed the USB to your laptop to do your streaming.

Bugger.  Thanks for confirming that.  I prefer using my phone for streaming because the camera is far better than laptop inbuilt crappy webcam.  Ah well, need to figure some more out.

Thanks again
