T8S in Portable PA

I can barely hear using headphones plugged into the headphone jack on my T8S mixer.

Do I need special headphones?

Hi acfriz,

Welcome to the forum! Thank you for joining us.

Please could you confirm where the headphones were plugged in?

"It depends."  What make and model headphones are you using?

Sorry if these are obvious questions:

  1. Are you plugging into the dedicated headphone jack on the right side of your T8S?  (Dylan_R, there is a headphone jack on the T8S and T4S -- note pages 6 & 8 of the T4S/T8S Tonematch Mixer Owner's Guide.)
  2. Do you have the separate headphone volume control turned up sufficiently?  (It is unaffected by the Master Volume.)
  3. Do the headphones sound normal when plugged into other sources?
  4. Have you gone through gain staging on all your channels to make sure you're getting good signal into your T8S?  If you don't have the channel trims and volume controls set properly, you won't be getting a robust signal in the headphone jack.)
  5. Are you getting a good signal to your speakers from the rear XLR or TRS outputs.  (If you're using any?)

Regards,

Fish

Thank you Fish, you are correct - I've edited my previous post to avoid confusion.

acfriz - I would also try changing the 3.5mm to 1/4" headphone jack adapter if you have a spare, in case the adapter in use is faulty.

Thanks for responding. I think I'm doing everything correctly, but I'm going to double check it all and use different headphones and adapters later today. Will let you know how it goes.

Testing completed. I was using a pair of open air headphones. When I used a pair of closed headphones, it was much better. It still takes more gain than I thought it would, but I think the problem is solved. Thanks, AC

Hey Cathlabrob,

Thanks for posting, welcome to the forum!

This setup would work - the T8S mixer's digital ToneMatch outputs and analogue XLR or 1/4" main outputs can be used simultaneously. You can also connect another mixer to the T8S inputs to give you more available channels.
