T8S to iPad 2G - what am I doing wrong?

I'm hoping someone will point out what I'm doing wrong while trying to get my T8S to connect with my iPad 2G via USB.

Hardware:

  1. T8S -> USB
  2. iPad 2G with camera adapter connected to 30pin socket
  3. SM58 mic -> ch.4 of T8S
  4. Guitar -> ch.3 of T8S (Tak 12 string acoustic or Godin A6)
  5. Headphones connected to T8S.

On the headphones (through the T8S) I can hear both mic and guitar. I had to turn down the 'phones volume to the bare minimum as it was too loud in my ears.

The mic sound comes through clearly to the iPad (recorded video and Zoom test conference). The guitar is just faint - barely audible.

Ch.3 trim set just below max (no red LED) and volume set just below max. Master volume set at 12. Guitar pre-amp volume set just below max.

I'm pretty sure that I've missed some setting and that's why the guitar (ch.3) is very faint ... but I can't figure out what I'm missing.

I'll be grateful if someone who has done this or knows what to look for, can point me in the right direction.

My objective is to collaborate with another musician via Zoom so I want him to hear what I'm putting out of my mixer. Not sure if this is relevant, but both mic and guitar are hooked up via Xvive's to the T8S.

Firmware is up-to-date on the T8S.

Thanks and stay safe, all.

Hi, Troubador.

Troubleshooting step:

Set the USB B to PC outputs

Left: Master

Right: Master

Does the sound of the guitar come through now? If it does then there's something wrong with the Aux settings on channel 3.

Thanks, ST

I did that and could hear the guitar at my end ... but didn't have anyone to test it with.

I then went in to the Aux settings and set them at 75%.

That seems to have done the trick!

I was able to get someone to test a Zoom call and he could hear both mic and guitar. (He also helped me adjust the volumes and tones, which was nice.)

All set now to try out a collaboration and excited that this can work.

Thank you very much for your help.

I'm quite tickled that the ancient iPad (ancient in iPad history) and a simple adapter works well with a (modern) T8S.

Cheers and stay safe,

Hi, Troubador.

That's great. Thanks for coming back to tell us you got things working.

Have fun.
