ToneMatch External Power Supply Problem

Hi People.

On the weekend one of our customers called up to say the ToneMatch mixer we hired them wasn't working.  The screen would just flash blue.   I'm not sure why but they wanted to use the external power supply even though they were using a L1 Model 2.

Our external ToneMatch power supply seems to have died.   The screen is just blank but apparently the blue light still comes on.  We connected the mixer direct to the L1 using the cable & that worked fine so I gather it's the external power supply not the mixer.    We're just thinking about whether to replace it.   It's more than a year old so I guess out of warranty.   Has anyone else had trouble with these?   We got it because we have a pair of Compacts as well.

Thanks,

Lee.

Hi Lee,

I regularly use the T1 with the power supply for the same reason (L1 Compact). I've never had any issues with it. My Power supply doesn't have a blue light and I've never heard of them having a blue light. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here. The power stand has a blue light, but unless they've changed the power supply it doesn't. Maybe someone can correct me on this if I'm wrong.

If I'm understanding you correctly, the customer must have connected the power supply to the T1, and then connected the T1 to the Power stand via the Master Out on the T1 into the analog input. He would then have to adjust the trim on the Power Stand for the volume. It would work but why do it?

Once again, I've never had any issues with the T1 power supply, but it is an electrical piece of equipment and they sometimes can become defective.

The power supply has a mains lead and the rest (power supply cable to T1) is permanently fixed together. Have you checked to see if the mains lead is defective? Can you check to see if the power supply actually gives out the required voltage?

"We're just thinking about whether to replace it."

Should you wish to hire out the T1 with a Compact you're going to need a power supply.

I see that you're in Sydney/Australia. Have you asked a Bose Dealer there if they can maybe just check your power supply? I'm sorry that I can't help you any further.

Does that help in any way?

Tony

Hi Lee,

The screen is just blank but apparently the blue light still comes on.

I've had an issue like this when the T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine Power Supply   connector is not seated fully in the T1®.

All I had to do was push the connector fully into the T1®. That doesn't mean that your T1 Power Supply is not defective, but rather, that I have seen the issue.

If you can replicate the problem I'd' replace the T1 Power Supply.

Hi ST,

thanks for the insight on this. I've (thankfully) never had any issues with mine. It's good to know that there may be a way around the problem should it arise at a gig.
