My new Tonematch TS4 suddenly crashed yesterday. I am using it powered from P.A. using the special Bose lead, and the first two weeks went splendidly, then the screen went dark, no,sound, and a second or two of screen fluttering followed. Exactly the same symptom happened 5 times after shutting everything down, and re-starting: initially all looked well, sound ok, until a minute or two later .. same crash symptom.
Has anyone come across this symptom and knows what the cause is?
I actually have two shows in the next two weeks and need to know whether I can mend the thing and then whether I can rely on it - or revert to a simple mixer
Sorry to hear that you're having problems with your T4s.
A few questions, for troubleshooting:
Which Bose L1 system are you using?
Have you tried swapping out the ToneMatch cable? You can use a standard CAT-5 Ethernet cable (commonly used for computers, just without the fancy locking ends and thicker jacket.) That's all the Bose cable really is. This will tell you whether the problem is with your ToneMatch cable.
Do you have access to a Bose ToneMatch power supply? This is a separate power supply that allows you to use the ToneMatch mixers with any PA speakers, Bose or not. This would let you verify that power is not an issue. (There's a chance your L1 system might not be providing sufficient power to your T4s. If that's the case, the L1 would be at fault.)
Is there any other heavy-duty equipment, such as a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, etc., on the same circuit you're using to power your L1? Or might you be running a long extension cord? Low voltage can sometimes cause crazy symptoms with digital equipment.
Thanks for all that, in the end the shop I bought it from was gracious enough to exchange for another, and so far after three days on test all is well so I am hoping the issue was with the ts4 unit or with the cable!
