I am thinking of purchasing The F1 system (a pair of them) tops and bottoms, for the band I play in, but I am concerned that these look easy to topple over if - as in some cases - the speaker systems are in amongst the audience close to the stage. We have had on occasion audience members who have drunk too much and toppled into out current large speakers and almost pushed the over. The F1 system looks quite tall and thin as though they could be easily toppled by the odd reveller. Any opinions? Any way of securing these speakers?
The bottom F1 Model 812 has a specially designed key that locks into the F1 stand. The fit is snug and secure. Please keep in mind that we need to pass safety tests before releasing a product like this. At the time o the video shoot, the stand was as secure as a standard tripod. We have even improved the design since then.
Another advantage to the stand, is that you can rest the speaker on it until you find the key. This way, you are not hunting for a pole cup as on a traditional powered loudspeaker. That said, the F1 Model 812 is pretty easy to load up.
You can see the bottom of the loudspeaker in our interactive app. Check out f1tool.com and play with the menus.
I'd strongly suggest that you go to a Bose F1 dealer and check them out in person. I've got confidence in mine, and have as yet to run into a situation where I was concerned about them toppling over.
I had the same concern prior to purchasing my F1 setup (2 each, tops & bottoms), and after playing several gigs in various stage situations, I've never had an issue.
We even encountered a venue moving the raised stage AFTER we were set up (before we could intervene and stop them), that set everything wobbling. The F1's were rock solid.
Another added benefit of the F1 Sub design is the angled top surface; traditional boxy subs are a perfect "cocktail table" for "patrons" upon which to place their drinks which inevitably vibrate to the floor.
The F1 Sub design discourages this practice, although by no means prevents it. We still had one "patron" place a glass on the angled top surface, and it immediately crashed to the floor. At least there was a clear "cause and effect" which provided a nice commotion, adequate embarrassment and reminder to others NOT to do this.
You won't regret the purchase. Our band has never sounded better.
