... and would like to know
1. If the connection from the 4 channel T1 Mixer to the L1 II Base (Power) is the same with the new T8?
2. And it looks like the TS won't attach to the line array anymore?
Are there any surprises I will need to look out for?
Thanks very much for your advice.
Bruce T.
Hello FCBlues,
The Model II base does not have enough power to run the T8s via the ToneMatch cable. You have to power the T8s with the included power supply, then run an XLR-TRS or TRS-TRS cable to the 1/4" analog input on the Model II base.
It is possible to continue to run the T1 (via the ToneMatch cable) and the T8s (as described above) at the same time, although that would be a lot of inputs to a single Model II!
Also, be sure to check the firmware version of your T8s to make sure it is up to date. The instructions to check the version are here and the instructions to perform the update, if required, are here. Please note, as stated in the instructions, perform a "factory reset" on the T8s after the update to make the changes take effect.
I have both a T1 and T8s, and operation is very similar, although not identical. The biggest differences (to me) are:
- The lack of the channel preamp outs similar to those on the T1.
- Each T8s channel is discrete, i.e., there is no combination channel similar to 4/5 on the T1.
- If you are feeding left and right signals from a laptop, phone or tablet via Y-cable, you will need two channels to do it.
- Additional routing options for USB from PC, to Master, channel 7, channel 8, or aux in 9/10. (If you're running mono, you can route both the left and right USB from PC signals to channel 8, which will combine them to mono, and thereby use only one channel.)
- The additional aux out channels (and you can apply reverb to aux 1.)
- The two aux in channels that can be used to input from other mixers (or other sources) if needed.
- The ability to mix in stereo, although with a single L1 system, it's probably best just to pan everything right, and connect your cable to the Main R (either XLR or 1/4") to ensure the best signal.
- The T8s does not include the ability to mount to the Model II tower; it uses a 1/4" threaded connector on the bottom, the size as is used with a camera tripod.
For more information, see this link. There are several other differences, but nothing else I might consider a "surprise." If anyone else on the forum has something that caught them off-guard, please let the OP know!
Does that help?
Thanks for the information!
