New discussion spun off from L1®s at Carnegie Hall.
Hi Ken
Finally a post about some one usinga violin (not a fiddle)
I am the roadie for my kids. (now 15 & 18). Concert Harp, Violin/Guitar & vocals - plus various others Our Bose gets a huge amount of use for all sorts of things. As wella s for performances, it is our home stereo, -used by all the neighbourhood kids to play their Ipods through it. Used at school functions as general sound system, Used at weddings/ cocktail parties/ Christmas street parties etc.
On Sunday my son is playing the violin part to the theme from Schindler’s List at an outdoor concert 300-400 people accompanying a school concert band.
Any idea what presets others are using for violin. We have previously just used accoustic guitar or flat. - We have a Tonematch
As I think about the differences between a 'fiddle' sound and a concert violin sound, I might start with the fiddle reference here.quote:Originally posted by The Roadie:

There are a few comments about cello that agree that a 80 Hz highpass (cut everything below 80Hz) works great with a cello and a violin.
The mic, the placement of the mic, and the use of a notch (paraEQ) filter would probably be 3 key elements to experiment with first. The low-cut (highpass) preset gets rid of unwanted "body" noises.

I’m a pro violinist since three decades and have L1 II Tone@match as my amp system. I play both acoustic and el. violin through it. I tried tone@match el. vln preset but wasn’t pleased with that since my own previous system sounded better. So I’m using GT-10 and 6 Gtr FX pedals with my own presets as preamps for Strados el.ac.vln and Strados solid body vln. When I’m to play purely acoustic I use SM-58 above the (Schoenbach Boheme) violin with Tone@Match preset for SM-58. With Strados solid body vln I have replaced the (bridge) mic with Barbera Twin Hybrid Violin Bridge since the maintenance service didn’t work with Zeta. Actually I’m not sure if Zeta is still operating on the market.
Anyway, I’m making my living with these equipments and I’m very pleased with the sound improvement the L1 II offers. One extra advance is when playing in bigger stadiums the sound engineers are usually very relieved since they don’t have to hassle with the violin sound me having strong control over the sound in the first place.
The L1 II was a total improvement. Can’t say what more there is to do to get the sound even better.
