I would like to wall mount the wireless 300 speakers high on the rear wall. Can the wire from the power/reciever unit be extended to the speaker using regular speaker wire?
In theory yes, but not practically unless you cut off the plug that has to be put into the receiver. But let me tell you they are long enough. The actuall speaker cable is about 5m long.
Thanks, that’s encouraging. I have wires run behind the wall. So I would run from the receiver to the wall and then from wall to the speaker. It sounds doable, I’ll wait a little in case someone says it can’t/ shouldn’t happen.
Mike
Hi mikewoliver,
You can certainly extend the speaker cabling from the power adapter to the speakers themselves using bare speaker wire.
The speaker cables that come with the Virtually Invisible 300 surround sound speakers is a 20ft cable with one proprietary end which plugs into the power adapter and the other end is bare speaker wires. You can use the bare speaker wire end of the cable to connect to your in-wall speaker wiring, and on the other end you can use the AC-2 clips provided in the box to connect the bare speaker wire to the speaker cubes.
Let us know if this helps at all! Thanks!
Hi Micheal,
I also want to extend the cable from the speakers to the power adapter just to hide the adapters. You say that its possible with bare speaker wires. With what thickness, quality and length may the original cables be extended?
Thanks,
Umut
Hi Umut,
We typically recommend at least an 8 gauge speaker wire cable for our products. Depending on your wiring you may need thicket cabling to avoid any interference, but 8 gauge is typically the ideal thickness to use.
Thanks!
Wow, that’s a big speaker wire! Larger than what I would have imagined.
Im a noob when it comes to wiring. What size is 8 gauge in mm? this is the original speaker cable but this does not look more then 1.5mm.
An 8 guage wire is over 4 mm in diameter. Here in the states wire is measured in BWG where 18 guage is 1.2 mm; 16 is 1.6 mm and as the numbers decrease the wire gets larger. For speaker wire in a home audio situation I'd say 18 guage is standard, but the bigger wire creates less resistance, and hopefully louder and cleaner speaker response. Many people use between 16 guage (1.6 mm) to 12 guage (2.6 mm) for their speaker runs in a home spetting particularly for the longer speakers runs. 8 guage is what you might expect to a sub woofer in a car audio application.
I'm hoping it was a typo. and that Michael meant to say 18 guage and typed 8.
Hello everyone,
Thank you mikewoliver for providing those details! I'd like to provide some clarification on recommended wiring. First, if the wiring is going to be in-wall, we always recommend making sure the wiring you choose meets your local home/safety regulations. As for the gauge, we suggest the following:
- 18 gauge - lengths up to 20ft(6m)
- 16 gauge - lengths between 20 - 30ft(9m)
- 14 gauge - lengths between 30 - 50ft(15m)
I hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any additional questions!
Best regards,
Brian
