Virtually Invisible 791 II Speakers

Qn to Customer Support/ Bose Community:

We havent installed in-ceiling speakers before and are looking to set up a few in rooms at home.

1. Whats the difference between 791 (II) and 591?

2. For the 791, does the installation require any specific wiring?

3. Does the installation in a plasterboard ceiling require creating an internal frame or can these be installed directly.

4. Do we need a ceiling speaker enclosure/ box fitted behind the speaker to eliminate sound migration to other rooms or the floor above us. We are in an apartment and were warned by our friends, this may be required.

1) the 791s have a larger bass driver, so better bass, which also leads to better sound quality

2)  just standard speaker wires coming from an amplifier.

3) It will just clip to the plasterboard with dog-leg clips - it has a template that you cut the plasterboard to size

4) may depend on your house.  In most cases it shouldn't be necessary

Can these speakers be installed in the wall or would that affect the sound quality?

Did you figure out the answer to your question? I’m also interested in installing 791ii speakers in the wall as front channel speakers.

It is not recommended to install the 791s in the wall. Your best best would be to use 891s which are designed for in-wall installation and should have the same fidelity as the 791 (in fact they are the exact counterpart you the 791 for in-wall use). While discontinued by Bose it appears (and much to my disappointment) you can still get them from Brand Smart USA’s website for retail price. Which happens to be the same cost as the 791s.
