What's in the box?

Love my first generation L1!

My boss just bought a new tonematch unit..came without the power cord (to wall). Surely this isn't a separate purchase !  No?

Hello MNunley,

Short answer:  If he purchased a T4s (or an older T1), then the power supply does not come in the box.

Long answer:  When the T1 was introduced (when the L1 Model II came out) it included a ToneMatch cable.  The ToneMatch cable is a single cable that could both supply power and send the main mix via a digital signal to a Model II without the need for any other output cable.  It also worked with the later Model 1S.

This single-cable concept was carried on to the T4s when it was introduced.  Since the T4s is a stereo mixer, it has the capacity to feed a second signal to a Model II or Model 1s via a second ToneMatch cable (although it only receives power from one.)  To use either the T1 or T4s with an older L1 Classic, L1 Model 1, L1 Compact, F1, S1 Pro, or third-party system, you have to purchase the separate ToneMatch power supply.

The T8s was introduced at the same time as the T4s, but the Model II and 1S could not supply enough power to drive it.  Therefore, Bose included a power supply instead of the ToneMatch cable with the T8s.  The new L1 Pro series systems have a more powerful ToneMatch port that will drive either the T4s or T8s.  (When using a T1 with an L1 Pro series system, you must use a separate cable from the main output jack -- the digital audio signaling protocol is different)

I checked several of the online retailers, and most don't mention needing the power supply for the older systems or third-party speakers.  Some have it listed as an accessory, some don't.  Bose's current page specifies what is in the box, but only refers to needing it with older systems in one of the FAQ bullet points, and even then you have to "expand" the bullet to see it!

Does that help?

Yes and no (g,)

His system is brand new.  I have not played with it yet.  It's the smallest of the compact PAd

So I don't know if it connects via that cat 5 thing alone or will require power like the older setups.  I think your answer is complete...I'm just not familiar enough with the new tool
