Which instruments should share a L1?

Our rock covers band uses 3 L1 model IIs between four musicians so someone has to share. Which should it be?
Vdrums
Bass
Lead guitar
Keyboard

And by the way - everybody sings lead and backing vocals.

Any thoughts?

Hi valvenerd,

Nice to see you.

I’d try to keep the Vdrums and Bass separate so that if they are both hitting hard on the beat, you are not whacking the L1® with big transient peaks.

If there’s overlap in the frequency ranges for the Lead Guitar and the Keyboard, I’d keep those separate too. That’s helpful for monitoring, and also for the audience experience of the Cocktail Party Effect.

Having said that, you still want to have performer hearing her/himself through the closest L1®.

So depending on where people are standing,

Vdrums Keyboard
Bass
Lead Guitar

or

Vdrums Lead Guitar
Bass
Keyboard

or

Bass Keyboard
Vdrums
Lead Guitar

Bass Lead Guitar
Vdrums
Keyboard

Does that make sense?

Ok - thanks ST. Thats helpful. I think the bass and keyboards together would suit us better.

Another option is to bring along the L1 Compact - if it was worth the effort of carrying extra gear.

The L1s are spaced 2m apart along the back wall. The musicians are 2m in front of the L1s in a row.

The right handed drummer is on stage right facing the audience - that way he/she is naturally looking towards the band. The keyboards are on stage left for visual symmetry with the bass and gtr positions in the middle of stage. Where would the L1 Compact go? And would it best suit the keyboard to use the Compact because she is playing mainly mid to high registers.

Thanks ST. Ive been looking for that sketch - forgot that it was in the system.
