Hi Folks
I’m looking for some guidance please. I want to purchase a TC-Helicon harmoniser to use with a L1 Model II / B2 Sub / T1 Mixer setup. I am just running acoustic guitar and vocals through the Bose.
I’m not sure which product will best suit? There’s the VoiceLive Play GTX, the VoiceLive 2 and the VoiceLive 2 Extreme, all of which seem as if they will do the job. Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Many thanks - Andy
Hi Andyc,
I’d start with this comparison page.
VoiceLive Play GTX / VoiceLive 2 / VoiceLive 2 Extreme
I have the TC-Helicon VoiceLive Play GTX and I run that through my L1®s. I have also run the VoiceLive Touch through my L1®s.
They both sounded great. I have NOT run the VoiceLive 2 through my systems but I’m sure that it would be fine.
Here is the difference between the VoiceLive 2 and the VoiceLive2 Extreme.

If I was going to get a VoiceLive2 I would definitely get the VoiceLive2 Extreme if it was available and the price was not prohibitive.
I chose the TC-Helicon VoiceLive Play GTX because even though it has only 2 voices (compared to 8 with the VoiceLive2), the VoiceLive Play GTX has electric guitar effects that the VoiceLive2 does not. (Delay, Distortion, Amp Modelling)
The VoiceLive Play GTX works extremely well for me, but that’s because I actually got it for the Guitar effects. The vocal effects and harmonies are very good, but they are not my first priority. If I really needed 8 voices in the harmonies, I might have to go with the VoiceLive2 Extreme and get a separate guitar amp modeller.
Which L1® do you have? Are you using a T1®?
Hi ST
Thanks for the comprehensive comments and links.
I have an L1 Model 2, and am using a T1.
I’m also now thinking about the VoiceLive Touch 2 with the optional foot switch, as this would allow me easier access to the settings when playing live. Another one to throw into the mix! (No pun intended).
Regards, Andy

Okay - you’re all set for any of the output options from a VoiceLive device.

Those are interesting units with much more emphasis on things that dedicated vocalist might like to do. More than I would need or want to attempt without a footswitch.

That footswitch was unavailable for the longest time. Check stock before you order. I just did a quick search and it seems to be plentiful - but there was a time when there was no hope of getting one any time soon.
For the record - I've owned three Helicon harmonizers (harmony G, harmony G-XT and VoiceLive 2) and one Digitech (VL2). The helicon stuff is superior.
I still have the G - as a backup to the VoiceLive 2. I sent the G-XT back because I kept changing the configuration when I would hit the harmony button. the other button is too close for me. The G is the same way - but again - it is just a backup.
Many thanks. Sounds like the VoiceLive 2 may be the answer - and I’ll see if I can pick up an “extreme” model if the price isn’t that much higher.
Dont know if you’ve made your purchase yet, but just FYI…
Unless you need double the looping memory, or just HAVE to have an extruded aluminum case…DONT waste your money paying more for the “Extreme” version of the TC VL2. I was tempted to go with the Extreme as well, but then I came across a post in a forum by someone that did a side-by-side comparison of the regular VoiceLive 2 and the Extreme Edition units in both live and studio environments (looking for link now, I will post it if I can find it) and, according to the testers, the difference in vocal sound quality was MINIMAL. The “enhanced” mic pre-amp did very little to improve the quality or presence of the vocals in the mix. The biggest difference came from using a good quality condenser microphone!!
I use a VL Touch 2 with Bose L1’s / T1, and it sounds absolutely phenomenal.

If you’re only interested in using the box for harmonizing, then you can’t beat the G-XT for the price of a used one.
